[Bug Windows 95&98] File names change case by themselves

Post by *white »

1) Make sure you have disabled the option "Show old 8.3 filenames lowercase (like explorer)" (Configuration/Display). The bug is actually also present with this option enabled, but it is easier to see when this option is disabled.
2) Create 2 files with the following file names: AAA.TXT (all uppercase) and bbb.txt (all lowercase) in the same folder
3) In Total Commander delete the file bbb.txt
4) In Total Commander rename the file AAA.TXT into BBB.TXT (all uppercase!)

What do you see???

(I use Windows 98)

It is not related to Total Commander. I have been able to reproduce this in a DOS box and in Explorer. So it is a feature ;-) of Windows 95 and Windows 98.

It happens when the new name is all uppercase and a short file name (max 8.3 characters).
