Another TC6.01 bug ? - files disappearing

Post by *Lar5 »

This is wierd. I was looking for an important file in my backup folder.
When i extracted the file from a rar file all the files in the folder
disappeared :-(

Luckily i found out what happend (i guess). Iv'e tried to reproduce the
error. I'm running WinXP eng (location Denmark), TC 6.01 and
WinRAR 3.20.

Please take a look at this gif.
http://2105.dk/temp/tc_bug.gif

Make a folder where the name contains at least 9 characters and one of
the characters is an "ø" (Alt+0248).

Put some files in the folder. Try to put an "ø" in their names.

Compress the files to a rar file.

In the rar file you'll find the files. The "ø" seems to have become an "o".

Drag one of the files out of the archive. Up on [..]

Click [Overwrite]

Now the rar file disappear and a new folder have been created. It's called
the same as the first folder i made, except the "ø" have been switched to
an "o"
The two folder contain the same file.

Delete the "self-made" folder, you'll be able to find the rar file again.

Could someone please test this behaviour?

Here is a free tool to record screen actions - CamStudio is freeware:

Version 2.0: ftp://ftp.freenet.de/pub/filepilot/windows/multimedia/video/camstudio20.exe
Version 2.1 http://www.ehelp.com/camstudio/product/screenrecording/

(I had some problems on 2.1, I recommand 2.0)

Can't confirm this behaviour. ø doesn't change to o when building the archive, no problems at all. I am using WinRAR 3.20 as well, german edition.

:D Hi!
Its the same at home.
I've WinRar 3.00 (multilingual), that works fine through TC:
¤ I built a small archive so-named <løl.rar>,
¤ I added / removed files in that archive,
¤ I unpacked the whole files,
8) That works, the archive name never changed, the "ø" character remains still...
:?: Maybe a font problem in the newest WinRar?
:) Friendly regards,
Clo

Hi Lar5

In general you should not at all use local characters forfiles/ folder like Danish ÆØÅ, many software products including Windows by itself, are known to have these problems in some cases. So better use "oe" instead of Ø

2nd test

:D Hello!
I made a second test with a dir having a 10-character name, and a ø inside:
Image: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/charries/relais/dan-character.png
Within this dir., I placed some files, one renamed with a ø in its name.
 I packed the files as RAR, the archive is right...
 I packed the whole dir. : it's right too.
 I extracted files from both archives: no problem...
:!: I even changed the option for Winrar.exe to Rar.exe: the packing is made via a Dos-box, but all is right too...
¤ Since the WinRar 3.00 version, I no longer have problems with special characters and name lenght (but I had with older versions...)
:) Best regards, friendly,
Clo
