My wish list for TC lister

Post by *alexjak »

Hi,

I use built in lister quite a lot, mostly because it is so fast and always one keystroke away. It would be nice to see the following features there (mostly applicable to viewing plain text files without plugins):

1) Tabbed browsing. Not only when I view multiple files, but also when opening yet another file, ability to either open it in a new viewer or as a new tab in existing one

2) Ability to make viewer window always on top and change its transparency.

3) Show line numbers in text files (on/off). And ability to go to some particular line in file as well

4) Ability to do some file operations on viewed file. I had many times the situation when I opened file for viewing, then moved away from that folder, and later on had to renavigate to it in TC again, even though the file was still opened in the viewer. Some operations I'd like to see:
4.1) Copy file name/path to the clipboard
4.2) Invoke the file's context menu
4.3) Open file's folder in TC (new tab with shift)

5) Ability to monitor changes in the viewed file (tail mode)

6) Ability to define custom highlighting. A map between a pattern (like in existing search) and a colour to highlight all matching palces in the file. It would be nice to have both persistent highlightings and an option to quickly define something on the fly for viewed file.
