TC bug on Synchronize dirs

Post by *Jqn »

Hi,
I'm synchronizing with my FTP server, and later I'm verifying the files.

SURPRISE :!: :!: :!:
"descript.ion" file does not appear in the server list, in a lot of folders. Other folders have an old version, TC does not detect the difference with "Compare" button...

I'm checking it synchronizing with a local ZIP file, and same trouble.

It seems that TC does not use this file in synchronization.

Some notice about this problem?

You are right, there is a special handling for this file:
It is not copied, if you have multiple files selected !

This is by design, if there is already such a file, it will be overwritten. This means, the description of existing files is lost.

If you mark this file only, it is copied.

The individual file descriptions are usually added to descript.ion with the copied files.

Note : You have to enable the option : "Copy description with files" to force the adding of the individual file description !

It's very annoying. :(

I've a "descript.ion" file in every folder with source and listing files. If TC does not send this file to backup, I can lose the information of files descriptions.

Also, there is an incoherence, Shift-F2 between folders, detects difference in this file, and select it.

I think that in fact, it has been forgotten.

Yes, I agree with you.

Due to the fact, that descriptions are not copied with each single file to FTP, there should be an option to allow a copy of the whole descript.ion file with each copied folder !

descript.ion file handling depends on what is checked in the configuration - operation:
1. If "copy comments with files" isn't checked (the default), the descript.ion files will be copied like normal files.
2. If "copy comments with files" is checked, the descript.ion files themseves will NOT be copied, BUT the comments in them will be copied when copying the files to which these comments belong!

Only exception: When using the Explorer copy method, the descript.ion files will be handled like normal files, because Explorer knows nothing about descriptions.

Apparently you have option 2 checked.

:D Good evening!
¤ A question a bit beside the topic, but still about <descript.ion> files:
1. The <hidden> attribute is so annoying, I remove it at all, and that works the same...
- The goal is to move these files during a <Defrag> operation.

2. A special case: when updating TC by the classic SFX -EXE, my <descript.ion> file in French is overwritten. But when I attempt to change it with my French one (backup), the original English one is not overwritten; I have to delete it in first, then to copy my backup into the TC-dir...
:? It's so odd, isn't it?

8) Glad to hear your opinion,
Best regards,
