OSD for file list navigation possible?

Is an on-screen-display (OSD) for file list navigation possible?
It should automatically display the file name under the cursor in large type, so that the current file name can be read from 10 feet (3 m) or so. Essentially, I'd like to try using a remote control to navigate the file list.
Is something like this doable within the plugin interface?
Or could it be scripted? (I have no plugin development skills, but I could try scripting...)

If you want to read file list from 3 meters then you need screen magnifier, try the magnifier tool that come with Windows, run it (%windir%\system32\magnify.exe), make its window docked and be sure the option Follow keyboard focus is checked.
