Files without extension: setting colour problem!

Post by *Clo »

:D Hello!
• I'd to make a test, in order to give a reply to user krojc:
http://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=2955
:arrow: like you can see in that reply, TC does not distinguish between directories and files without extension!
:? So, a colour assigned to the none-extension file-type is applied to directory-names too - the most dirs having a simple one-part name -
:?: Has somebody an idea to avoid this? Of course, without adding an extension to dirs! :lol: (Though it's possible...)
• I made the test under Win 98SE only…
8) Thanks!
:mrgreen: Kind regards,
Claude

Just define a search where you unselect the directory attribute and they wont get the same color.
Of all the planets I've been to, this one is my favorite.

:D Hello!
• Thank you for this reply!
:? That doesn't work… It's the same, except if you rename a dir. with an extension, like you can see there:
Image: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/charries/relais/no-extens-colour.png
:arrow: The dir in "file-style" 7.zip doesn't take the no-extension colour…

:arrow: To tick the "Directories" box makes that the Search finds only files without extension, but doesn't act about the colour of *. items, as so well files as dirs.
• In fact, under DOS / Windows (anyone), it seems that a dir. is no more than a special file, containing the names of ordinary files which are placed into it. User Hackers (Hi Roman!) tells this recently in another topic / forum (somewhere…), and I've the same opinion.

:) Any other idea accepted! Thanks.
:mrgreen: Kind regards,
Claude

Are you sure?
krojc wrote:Is it possible to color files manually; not by extension! I find myself trapped in files with 8 digit filename without extension and just 3 among those I need to edit the next day. It would be great if I coud somehow add somekind of color coded priority. I'm aware of descriptions, but they are not striking enough...
IMO It's not enough for krojc. He probably wants to mark only some of files so he probably needs additional functionality of TC (priorities).

:D Hi!
:arrow: Right, but it's better than nothing to mark the no-extension files globally... and nice for me and others.
Further............ like you say, not supported yet.
• Note: I think that the advanced dialog for file-types colours isn't appropriate. Too complex, not clear and confusing since using the same boxes than Search

Post by *Clo »

:) I added,
:cry: Still black, though the chosen colour appears right in the first colour dialog (where are coloured extensions as samples too...
in my ini, looks as :
[searches]
*._SearchFor=*.
*._SearchIn=
*._SearchText=
*._SearchFlags=0|0000020000||||||||11110|0000
noext_SearchFor=*.
noext_SearchIn=
noext_SearchText=
noext_SearchFlags=0|0000020000||||||||00000|0000
bmp_SearchFor=
bmp_SearchIn=
bmp_SearchText=
bmp_SearchFlags=0|0000020000|||||0|1|1|00002|0000
files without extensions_SearchFor=*.
files without extensions_SearchIn=
files without extensions_SearchText=
files without extensions_SearchFlags=0|0000020000||||||||22220|0000

Hard problem! Do I remove the first *. rows?

As you can see above you haven't defined a color for "files without extensions". Add a new entry for this filter. Delete ColorFilter2 or add the new color filter at a higher priority.
