[TC 8.0 and 7.56a] Dir sizes not shown for copy with filter

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[TC 8.0 and 7.56a] Dir sizes not shown for copy with filter

Post by *petermad »

I don't know if this is a bug or a missing feature, but directory sizes are not shown (but seems to be calculated) in the file panels when copying files and "Only files of this type" in the copy dialog is used.

To reproduce:

Settings:
[Configuration]
CountMarked=1

1. Put the cursor on a (large) directory and press F5 to copy it.
2. In the copy dialog enter *.* (or anything else) in the "Only files of this type" field.
3. Notice that the size of the directory is NOT shown in the file panel, as it is when no filter is used.

They are not counted with CountMarked=0.

Sorry, I meant CountMarked=1 - otherwise the report doesn't make sense. So, please try again.

I just checked it - TC does this because the counted size does not correspond to the size of the folder. For example, if you copy only *.txt files, TC only counts them, but the folder may contain also some other files (which are not counted).

Of course - but wouldn't it be more informative to show the total size of the files that are to be copied - in stead of nothing.

It doesn't differ from the situation when a directory contains files that are on the ignore list - In that situatuion, when I press Space (CountSpace=1) or Shift+Alt+Enter, I get the full size including ignored files - but if I start copying the directory, then TC recalculates the size excluding the ignored files and displays that size. I think copying with filter should works the same way.

No, that would be misleading!
