My 98 box is dying and I'm getting a new XP one next week. Of course the first app to install will be WC, oops, TC. In the old days I think all I had to do was copy the wincmd directory over and it all worked. Now there are registry keys etc. My proposed method is to download and install V6, and then copy over wincmd.key, and overwrite wincmd.ini, wcx_ftp.ini and default.bar in the new installation with my current files. Is this a reasonable method? Thanks.

Hello Bob!
• The method you plan is right in the outlines. You have to reinstall the newest 6.01 version (to download, of course).
• However, please be careful:
¤ To choose "Program dir." for the location of *.ini files when you'll reinstall under XP - it's the default option now -
¤ Your new TC location must have the same path / dir name, or else that needs to change "by hand" in the old <wincmd.ini> and <wcx_ftp.ini> files.
• Instead the path, now you can use: %COMMANDER_PATH%
• Some old dirs might be the same, i.e. icons, if you use for buttons...
• You'ld have to reinstall in first the programs launched from TC (by buttons, Start menu...)
• No problem for the registration-key: it's so-called <Wincmd.key> still, hence the old ones (1024 bytes encoding) work.
Enjoy!
Kind regards,
Claude

Re: Easiest way to move from 98 to XP?
FWIW, I installed XP Pro last weekend, and did as you planned. I've have no problems at all with TC so far (touch wood!).ChuckRoast wrote:My 98 box is dying and I'm getting a new XP one next week.
