Using an external compare by content
Is it possible to use an external 'Compare by content' (in fact Winmerge) instead of the internal one by calling the menu File > Compare by content?

Hello, Bonjour!
• On the "Addons" page, Ch. Ghisler quotes another similar soft:
http://www.prestosoft.com/ps.asp?page=edp_examdiff
• But he doesn't tell if such programs can be launched directly instead the "Files" menu command...
¤ But my mistake, only the internal commands of TC can be placed as an entry in a menu...
• You could launch this from the "Start" menu or a button, but obviously it's less handy.
Kind regards - Cordialement
Clo

And what parameters do I have to enter after the call to winmerge if I want to have the same behaviour as with the standard 'compare by content': in fact How can I specify the first selected file as the first parameter and the second selected file as the second parameter?

Hi!
I refer too this in the Help >>> Change main menu:
"Only identifiers which are in totalcmd.inc can be used! However, the file totalcmd.inc must be present at runtime if you want for use an external menu. "
• To change directly for another kind of command is not planned in this Help topic.

In fact it can also compare two files by selecting only one if there is another file with the same name in the other window.corny wrote:I've got ?%P%N %T%M -D as parameters for windiff, but I guess you want to compare two files selected in the same window? I didn't realize the internal compare could do so
Otherwise, %P%N %T%M works fine with Winmerge.
Thank you very much

Clo,
OK, thanks, though I have never heard that phrase before -> I wonder, if others know what you mean.
What do you think about the standard acronyms AFAIK (As Far As I Know) or IIRC (If I Recall Correctly)?

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

You certainly do!!Clo wrote:I don't like acronyms.
On your first post in this thread you did use two actually!
Ch -> Christian
TC -> Total Commander
