FTP Removing directories

Post by *beuvema »

When using Total Commander for removing directories or files on FTP
this isn't possible. Is this a setting within TC or a problem at my providers?

I've just checked it out on 6 different servers - I have NO problems deleting or copying files or folders.

Most likely a problem with YOUR server - are you sure you have writing privileges on the specific server in question :?:

:)   Hi !
• I confirm the petermad's tests: that works for my servers too.
• You must have the full owner's rights to delete dirs on the server.
¤ To verify this, check the 3-digit number set at the "Attribute" column, instead the ususal letter on local dirs. From the Help / Tutorial >>> Change Attributes >>> Dialog-box "Change UNIX attributes" :

Code: Select all

The UNIX attributes are shown as a 3-digit number in the file lists:
The first number represents the owner rights.
The second number shows the group rights.
The third number stands for all other user's rights (world rights).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The numbers are calculated by adding the individual rights: 4=Read, 2=Write, 1=Execute
Example, 754 means:
"Owner" has all rights: 4+2+1=7
"Group" may read and execute: 4+1=5
"World" may only read the file: 4 only.
• Hence, that attribute number must be 7xx to allow you the dirs. removing.
   Kind regards,
Claude

make sure, there are no hidden files in those directories ;)
To check, select "show hidden files" in the net menu if not done yet...

I checked the attrib's and indeed these didn't start with 7 but were -644.
I'm going to check with my provider now to change them.

Thx guys

Do you connect via a HTTP proxy? Most http proxies don't support the deletion of files, and none supports the creation of subdirs.

:)   Good evening,
beuvema has answered that his remote dirs have not the owner-rights extension...
