I'm back...and the future of Club Total

Post by *Maxwish »

Hi everybody...I'm back!!!!

Australia was great. Just had too little time to see it all, but I did my best: First I travelled from Sydney to Melbourne and back: visiting Canberra, the Snowy Mountains, a great deal of the Great Ocean Road, the Blue Mountains and Hunter valley. Then I travelled up the East Coast visiting lots of places including Surfers Paradise and Brisbane. After this I visited Frasier Island and did some sailing and snorkeling at the Whitsunday islands. Oh yeah, also included some days in Hong Kong and Singapore!
Now I need a vacation to rest a bit after all that travelling ;) But it was great to see so much of that beautiful country and to see my brother and his girlfriend again after a long time...

Big thanks to Roman for trying to keep Club Total updated a bit while I was away. And for attempting to figure out 'my system' on how I update the site and such. Again big thanks!

About Club Total's future:
I just read the message about www.totalcmd.net from Ergo.
Wincmd.ru was already much better than Club Total, but sadly only in Russian. Now with this new English site I think Ergo has the winning concept with his great content management system. It has much more functions for plugins authors than Club Total can ever offer. So I'm thinking of throwing in the towel. I don't think TC needs two sites with updated plugins, it would just be a waste of time....

Welcome back MaxWish!

Oh yes it DOES!

And I'm not talking about better results through competition here!

What worries me is the fact that nothing guaranties that a site will always be available both in terms of network availability and in terms of administering resources by humans. So, it's always good to know that a backup site is available.

Now, it is a waste though to spend money and human resources for the very same thing. Based on this perspective it would be advisable to join forces and have a dedicated site being administered by more than one person (and a hardware mirroring configuration) so that the lack-of-availability factor is eliminated.

A living example is having Hacker taking care of your site while you were away! ;)

Nice to see you again :-)

That's true what you say about Ergo's page. It was just a milestone making this page in English. Not everyone understood Russian.
Anyway many people will be missing ClubTotal.

Maybe as pdavit wrote above you could cooperate with Ergo in any way. It would be nice to see you both together. You both have done so much for TC comunity so far.... :-)

Club Total's big advantage over totalcmd.net is sorting of plugins into different categories to find them way more easily.

totalcmd.net is far from being "the best", right now it is definetely not, at least not for the visitors. It's just an unsorted list of plugins, not sure what exactly is so attractive with that. I am actually not very impressed.

Full ACK with pdavit, if you have no desires to keep up the site anymore at least bundle your efforts with Ergo and build the best TC related site ever.

Don't listen to the hypocrites claiming to have liked your site but having nothing better to do than f u c k you from behind while you were off to Australia, they don't know what they are missing anyway.

If you are planning to retire completely I can understand nevertheless. Welcome in our club. ;)

Whatever, thanks for Club Total, always has been a pleasure to visit your site.

Nice to see you again, but after your (second) "vacation to rest a bit after all that travelling", please continue your marvelous job.

Don't forget that both Ergo and Maxwish works for your comfort and your pleasure...

I think there is a big need for Club Total, at least as long as Club Total is clearly better than TOTALCMD.NET. The latter seems to lack such an elementary thing as a search function (incredible!). Even by manual browsing I could not find my favorite lister, namely Sven Ritter's TxQuickView. So I guess it's simply not there, maybe because TxQuickView is Shareware, not Freeware. But anyway the reason does not matter to me. I expect to find them all.
Once I had the suspicion that the contents of TOTALCMD.NET is not complete, I counted the lister plugins: Club Total shows 48 lister plugins nicely subdivided into 6 categories (6+4+17+6+9+6), while TOTALCMD.NET shows only 45 lister plugins in flat list.
Also in other respects TOTALCMD.NET did not convince me.

Furthermore I fully agree with pdavit's post.

Club Total has improved a lot over time (also regarding colors ). Thank you, Maxwish!

was a big joke.. And I still think so.. What do u mean by that?!? As jb wrote it hasnt even a simpel search function.. Whats better with that?!?! Spend more time speed reading alot of text?! I seriously think u should reconsider.. ClubTotal is way much better than that text-only-site-with-no-functions-what-so-ever-at-least-I-did-not-find-them!!!!

As PDAVIT says, it would be better to have both sites. With differences and similarities.
No one site can be the best for everyone.
For me, it is not a waste of time browsing 2 or 3 sites while I can find all the plugins and its upgrades.

Keep both!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've already visited totalcmd.net more times than Club Total. The latter was always too slow for me, unfortunately.

However, I really appreciate any efforts to provide sites with plugins for our favourite file manager, and as has already been requested, it would be great to see a combination of the two sites, with the best from both worlds. This would also make sure that there are more than one genuinly TC-loving person behind the site!

no matter what, though, good luck with whatever you do, Maxwish!

Thanks for your comments. I will try to keep CT up to date by fixing broken links and uploading all files to the free.fr server until I decide what to do.

CT started with 2 things in mind:
1- Help the TC community by keeping an online archive of plugins and tools.
2- My little hobby project to learn HTML (and later PHP/MySQL) programming. Motto was: "who needs a book, just learn by doing..."

Point 1 is now getting less important, with this Forum and the TotalCmd.Net site. And I just haven't time and money enough to keep myself busy with Point 2. So unless I get some new motivation, I'm afraid the end will be soon.

Don't get me wrong but I sense a tone of lack-of-enthusiasm here and if I may be allowed to speculate, CT would have been ended even without the presence of totalcmd.net!

I'm not here to judge you MaxWish, I'm just sad with the outcome since I love CT both for its quality and for sentimental reasons (i.e. CT was there for me for a long time - over 3 years now). :(

Please do not leave us without Club Total !!

Or if you can't continue with it, at least leave it to someone who is able and willing to continue with your legacy. I am sure there are at least a few people more than capable and interested in continuing with it.

If you think that Club Total is worth being kept up close the official plugins page on ghisler.com and spend the money for running Club Total as the official plugins page instead. Money for running that site seems to be the main problem here obviously.

I bet that the great variety of plugins on Club Total is responsible for more happy TC customers than your unsophisticated plugins list. At least I haven't looked at it anymore since I learned that Club Total exists.

Well, hope dies last but it seems we have to face the truth:
Sad times to come. :(
