Multi-Rename tool bug

Post by *MiToZ »

Hello!

I would like to report a bug in multi-rename tool :( Problem emerges when user tries to rename directory that has a "dot" in its name.

e.g.
Directory name: "c:\2Explorer 0.0.0.57" ...
Text user wants to add after directory name: " (c) Small Wonders"
Rename mask: "[N] (c) Small Wonders"

Expected name: "c:\2Explorer 0.0.0.57 (c) Small Wonders"
New name: "c:\2Explorer 0.0.0 - Small Wonders.57"

What would be its use? We already have a box for extension. Any example?
norfie wrote:Therefore your mask has to be
Rename mask: [N].[E] (c) Small Wonders
Extension: <empty>
My solution wasn't that elegant ;)

Thanks for reply

(There is a little confusion I suppose (me or MiToZ) :).
Example of such use is especially with files, eg you want to rename all
image???.jpg to image???_256color - then you use [N]_256color and leave the extension untouched.
We could discuss if this behaviour of separating extension should be disabled for directories etc., but I am not sure if we need to change it. Only users should be aware that directories also have extension if you use DOT in the directory name - the same as files.

There is no point in making examples using files. Every file that has dot has an extension. It can't be any other way, so there are no possible examples for my "problem" (it isn't really a problem, more of inconsistency in TC behaviour)

What I am talking about here is a directory rename ... If directory has dots in its name it doesn't mean that it has an extension. I think it would be more logical to change this so directories are treated different than files (but more logical from user perspective), with all dots considered a valid part of directory name.

P.S. It isn't very often that you use or even see directory with extension

:)  Hi !
• Currently, you're right... But it was a trick when using Win 3.1 / DOS to get a 11-character name for a directory...

MiToZ,

What way do you use to backup your directories instead of Shift-F5, *.bak, Enter?

:)

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Interesting method ... who does directory backup that way? ... there is a reason why we have two panels and/or multiple partitions :D

I do... I want a "backup" in the same directory when eg upgrading a program from a zipfile - overwriting some of the old version files (in BSPlayer for instance).
