I have assigned on F3 the app Notepad++. I configured it for the external viewer.
If I select a proper file and press F3 this works fine. If I search a file via Alt-F7 I get a list of search-results. There I can press View, but it still opens the internal editor.
I would have expected the viewer configuration applies to the whole TC without any expectations. Therefore I expected to see Notepad++ opening.
Tested: TC8.5ß11, 64bit.

Unfortunately it's currently not possible to call any external viewer or editor from search results. This has multiple reasons, like the need to monitor temporary files (done by lister directly) or the possible modification of search results.

I use VTfind as search tool with full TC integration.
http://www.breto.net/programas/vtfind.php
It requires NTFS.
You can View, Edit, Run, GoTo File,Feed to Listbox
This allows to have editor (F4) and viewer (F3) definition for the search results.

Uhu, I thought since the naming (view) is the same I expected to have the same action.
I don't really understand the reasons why it is not possible, cause I cannot image what the user should do in the meantime to get finally unwanted side-effects... Would you mind to give a detailed scenario when this might occur?
But anyway... It is not THAT big deal to have it, as it is now.

Yes it is better integrated.sqa_wizard wrote:Thank you for the link!I use VTfind as search tool with full TC integration.
Looks like a handy tool, even more powerful than "Everything".
Unfortunately we have to stay with the previous version of TFind because the newest version is not compatibel with VTfind (doesn't display the result list).
The old Tfind version is fine but can't be installed as a service, so we need admin rights to use it. Not a problem for me but may be for others.
