-[8.50b14] Strange renaming file_1.0.txt to file_1.1.*

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

-[8.50b14] Strange renaming file_1.0.txt to file_1.1.*

Post by *MVV »

E.g. I have a bunch of files with same name with version in it but different extensions, and I want to quickly change version number.

Try to rename file_1.0.txt and enter name mask file_1.1.*: TC renames file to file_1.1.t instead of file_1.1.txt. Why does it cut first two extension characters?

This happens because TC treats the part after the FIRST dot in the name mask as the extension. Therefore .1.* is matched with .txt, so the * only matches the last character. Currently I don't have any plans to change this, because it would lead to a lot of confusing if the behaviour suddenly changed.
