I do not know if this "bug" has already been reported ...
Versions affected: 8.50, 8.51 b1-2-3
Version 8.01 unaffected
Example:
- Mapping <ALT> D to the command "cm_CountDirContent"
- Entering into a folder containing subfolders
- Select full view and sort the display sorted by size descending
- Perform the size subfolders calculation with the combination <ALT> D and select some sub folders (mouse right)
- Losing the focus to TC by selecting the desktop or other application
- Reassign the focus in TC
The selection and the calculation of the dimensions is lost although not made any changes to the filesystem.
Reproducible or is it my problem?
+Bug? No, just a nuisance ..!

Not just you, and definitely a bug. Selection should be "sticky" and not clear itself willy nilly whenever it feels like.
CountDirContent, Sory by Size, select the empty dirs "<DIR>" right-click & select properties or just click on the task bar and back to TC.... both panels refresh for no reason and selection is lost.
If you don't perform a CountDirContent (DirSize), then there is no refresh and selection is not lost.
No Effect with the following options:
[x] Refresh when files are created, deleted and renamed
[?] Also when size, date, or attributes change
[?] Don't react to updates while in the background
Whether or not the two options [?] are enabled or not, there is no change in behaviour from above.

*BLINK* TC9 Added WM_COPYDATA and WM_USER queries for scripting.
Obviously I confirm ...Balderstrom wrote:No Effect with the following options:

The problem is that the list of folders gets re-sorted after counting. I will check it.
