Close Locked Tab

Post by *Genghis86 »

Code: Select all

---------------------------
Total Commander
---------------------------
This tab is locked! Close anyway?
---------------------------
Yes No Cancel
---------------------------
How would No be different from Cancel in this case?

:-) this is a minor design flaw. Just ignore it.

I'm not sure if it actually works like this but what if you have 10 locked tabs open, you select "close all tabs" and you want to cancel the "closing" process? :)

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3
x64: Clients/Servers from Win7 to Win11 and Win2K12Srv to Win2K22Srv, mainly Win10 though.

No, there is another question:

Code: Select all

---------------------------
Total Commander
---------------------------
Delete all inactive tabs?
---------------------------
Yes No
---------------------------
I switched to Linux, bye and thanks for all the fish!

Is this really a problem? It's just a harmless redundancy
If you enable this function accidentially you can quickly press "Cancel" without reading the message, especially if you are not sure what you have done. If you read the message you can answer with "Yes" or "No" .
No and Cancel mean the same - but some people may prefer to press NO - as a contraticion to YES ;) and others may prefer to press Cancel - as it is standard button if you want to move back from the selected window/function.

:) It is supposed to make both kind of people happy :)
Just remember that in this dialog NO = Cancel,

In rare cases it is possible to have a non-standard (rather badly designed)dialog where YES=Cancel (e.g. if you have question like: "You surely pressed exit by mistake and do not want to run this function. Ignore EXIT command?") :)

Agree. If Christian wishes (and finds it necessary), he'll correct it.

Something like "If you made a mistake and you do not wish to format C:, press Yes otherwise press Cancel"? :D

If I can remember well Christian has knowledge of the "problem" but mentioned that the appropriate message he had in mind needed the contact of all TC language translators and since the release date was close he did choose convenience over correctiveness. Was it that dialog or maybe not?!

This is actually not a bug: When the standard MessageBox only shows Yes+No, you cannot close it with ESC! This is only possible when the Cancel button is shown too...

That's what I like about you Christian. It's difficult to get you. Just when one thinks he's spotted something strange, you come along and say something like the comment above and you drive him crazy! :) Simple things that make TC a very clever program.

Just OK and Cancel then? But is it really worth it?

The problem is that "OK" isn't the right answer to "Delete all inactive tabs?". I would have to re-word it a bit, like "This will delete all inactive tabs.", but then 30 languages will have to be changed...
