OPENTABS and APPENDTABS issue.

Post by *Spiderkeys »

I'm really finding the OPENTABS and APPENDTABS commands very useful with just with one click of a button, I alway use 'save tabs to both sides to file' but having one issue.

I've got to remember to activate the left hand side panel before choosing a saved tab, otherwise they are swapped around in opposite panels becoming confusing and having to swap them back over, which kind-of defeats the purpose of the short-cut in the first place.

Is there a work-around to get it always coming up exactly as saved, like when I clicked on the left panel tabs to save both tabs, at first I expected they would both open exactly as I left them, and unswapped.

You can append L or R to the OPENTABS and APPENDTABS commands, so that they are opened on the left or right side. This is also mentioned in the help file in "Dialog box: Configuration - Change button bar".

Unfortunatelly, the format save all actives tabs from the side you clicked first and the the other side even if you can add parameter L/R for opentabs it does not helps as you must remember from where you saved the tabs.
You can add L or R as prefix to remember from where you saved the tabs.
You should ask to have a less ambigous format in order to have indication of wich side was saved for activetabs..

You can put the tab command in a custom command, e.g. em_mytabs, and then create a button with two commands:
cm_FocusLeft,em_mytabs

How can it helps if you do not remember from with side you saved both active tabs ?

If you don't know what you are doing you should not use TC :D
For all other cases it may help to use meaningful names.

If you saved them incorrectly, open the file and just swap the headers [lefttabs] and [righttabs].

Can I use Appendtab issue with an "add" that the currently opened Command will get the focus?

You ask whether Ghisler will you implement a savetabs command? Six SaveTabs commands exist. What is missing?

Give a look at posted date: in may 2015 and Tada a month after:
12.06.15 Added: 6 new commands to save tabs to a specified file: SAVETABS, SAVETABSL, SAVETABSR, SAVETABS2, SAVETABS2L, SAVETABS2R. The first 3 save just one side (active, left, right), the second 3 save both sides (active first, left first, right first) (32/64)
;)
