wrong file size display for current download with mozilla

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

wrong file size display for current download with mozilla

Post by *Michael REMY »

hi,

i saw and endure this since almot 10 years i think. but i'm very bore that is always appens with tc 8.51a x64.

why TC can't manage to display the current file of downloading files with mozilla browser.
it always display 0 to the .part file.

once the download is finish, the .part file is gone, and of course TC displays the right size of the file now.

But what is very strange is :
once i copy (from left side to right side folder by example) the current .part file, then tC displays the current size instead the zero !!!!

so, TC knows and can display the current size of the .part file , then why didn't it display or refresh it ?

strange ...

normal or bug ?
i'm an old long user of TC since the windows 3.11 release !, for the history, i came to tc when i migrate from amiga commodore to PC where they are diskmanager and directory opus there.

Did you check the Refresh settings in TC Configuration dialog before posting ?

no i am not, i will now.
but often i donwload large file with slow bandwith, and that takes around 3h.
i guess the default refresh setting must be under 3hours i hope !
but i often broswe away the folder and back, and the refresh is not done either.

Even not when i close TC and re-open it, the refresh is not done at all.

i had to say i download always on c drive (boot drive) at root.

i will check the setting now and there is it :

i never change that since my TC bought on floppy disk on windows 3.11 !

but if the refresh is not done when i close TC and reopen it, i guess it is a bug which concern file.PART extension !

This will not help - it is actually a misfeature of newer Windows versions than XP. Microsoft calls it "optimization", I call it laziness. What happens is that the directory entries are only updated once the file is CLOSED. You can force this by opening/closing the file yourself, e.g. with Alt+Enter (Windows properties). When I do this, the file will immediately show its correct size (but will not update it any further while the download proceeds).

so when i copy the file (whereas the download is not finished yet), windows do a auto-closed of the file and display the current size and still continue the donwloading.

so, it is not a TC bug.

No, when you copy the file, Windows opens it AGAIN for copying, copies the data, and then closes it (this doesn't affect the ongoing download). When that second open file is closed, the NTFS directory entry is updated.
