[8.52 x64 RC1] Total Commander Icon in Windows 10

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[8.52 x64 RC1] Total Commander Icon in Windows 10

Post by *CAP-Team »

28.07.15 Fixed: Main icon didn't include 24x24 pixel image, which is the new default size in the Windows 10 task bar (but unfortunately Windows 10 seems to ignore the 24x24 icon for now) (32/64)
There seems to be no 24x24 icon present in Totalcmd.exe or totalcmd64.exe, just the following formats:
48x48 256 colors
32x32 256 colors
32x32 16 colors
16x16 XP colors
16x16 256 colors
16x16 16 colors

Not fully confirmed. There is a 24² icon in 256 colors in the 32 bit version but there is none in the 64 bit version.

You are right, I only checked the 64-bit version. Whoops :)

Ah, you are right - I included the new icon only in TC9, not TC8.52. I will include it. Unfortunately it doesn't help:

Even if the taskbar icon is 24x24, Windows 10 does NOT use the 24x24 icon image from the EXE file. Instead it uses the 32x32 icon and downsizes it to 24x24. Even worse: When I put JUST a 24x24 icon image in the EXE, Windows 10 first resizes it to 32x32 and then back down to 24x24. :(

Hello!

I did a little test compiling two exes.
- One exe with the icon in 8bpp (right in the example)
- Another one with icon in 32bpp (left in the example)

And here the results: http://www.breto.net/temp/TC_testicon24bpp.png

You can use the icon I used and check if it works for you.
I can read English, but... I write like Tarzan. (sorry)

Did you pin the taskbar item?

Yes, if you include just 24x24 icon with 32bpp, Windows 10 will use this. Unfortunately it has a bad side effect: Windows 7 will use it too instead of the 32x32 icon!

But if I include both 24x24 and 32x32 icons in 32bpp, Windows 10 will again use the 32x32 icon and downscale it...
