"Entire Network" missing in Network Neighborhood

Post by *djorge »

I all,

The entry "Entire Network" is missing when i click in my "Network Neighborhood".

Is there an alternate method to see my "Entire Network"?

If i access a shared folder in another computer and i go back one directory clicking in the ".." (first entry of directory listing) i can access the Entire Network.

Is there a way of changing the directory to a Network Domain?
I'd like to be able to do the folowing command:

cd \\MyDomain where "MyDomain" is a Network Domain.
That way i could use the "Change Directory Menu" or CTRL-D.

I'm using Windows XP Professional with all the latest patches + Total Commander 6.03a.

Thanks in advance,
David Jorge

You can do this actually but have to add the share-name of the network-drive.

e.g. there are three drives shared on \\MyDomain
  • drive C:\= "Programs"
    drive D:\= "Data"
    drive E:\home\Yourname="YN"
you can access the by using
  • cd \\MyDomain\programs
    cd \\MyDomain\data
    cd \\MyDomain\NY
You cannot see all the shared drives at \\MyDomain with 'cd' command.

If I understand correctly, Djorge wants to browse domain name and not drives in domain name ...

cd \\MyDomain1
and
cd \\MyDomain2

He wants to see computers in the differnents domain and not drives...

Exactly. Is there a way to do it?

How? It does not work here. A message box appears saying that the file does not exists.

Have you done this command in total commander command line? Or with the Change directory menu?

My XP is the English version.

The most strange in this is that the "Microsoft Windows Network" entry is missing from the file listing. This is not normal. In the earlier version of total commander (6.0), this entry was there.

I did it in command line. But it works also with directory hotlist and even with a button.
Strange, it works just without the ending backslash, but I'm pretty sure that it did not some time before.

Have you tried to access the network with explorer? Maybe windows decided to forget about the network - I have sometimes troubles with windows XP while it always tries to connect with it's 'artificial intelligence' but in most cases with the wrong interface.

Anoother thought: there's in the 'configuration' section of wincmd.ini the entry 'Allowed =***' wich tells TC which drives are allowed to display. If this entry exists and the '\' is missing, TCV would not allow you access to the whole network.

Strange buttons---

Post by *Clo »

:) Hello Stefan !
• I made a quick test under XP-Pro :
- I can't set a button for the whole network for my own domain in the MS-Network, in example it's :
\\Claude
* This "folder" contains three workstations "folders" (plus my son's laptop when present); but yet, I had set buttons for each, simply by Drag & Drop + Shift; that works.
* If I do the same for \\Claude, that doesn't work;
* TC doesn't write the full path - so long-.
* The command 2125 as a button displays the whole caboodle, like the "Network Neighbourhood" button in the drive-buttons bar.
• Under Win 98 SE, a button for \\Claude works, but displays the whole content, and not only a simple list of the workstations "folders"…

 sorry, it seem I need some coffee.

Once again I got it wrong. I have no domains so I meant with 'cd \\Mydomain' one Computer and I see the whole shares of this one PC. The Domain you cannot access so easily. But if you switch to one PC in the domain and the switch one dir up you should see all PC in the domain. Sorry if I were misleading you, but somehow I didn't get the problem. My fault.

 «Errare humanum est»

• Coming back to djorge's problem, like me under XP-Pro :
- He might set buttons for each computer of the network,
- He can't set a single button for \\HisDomain_MS-Network- That sounds a bit as a bug, or at least a lacuna.
* Right ?
* I'ld be glad to know the Ch. Chisler's opinion about that…

My ini file doesn't have that entry.
