Was it really needed to do this with the icon?
It is really bad to have a smaller icon with a white circle, box or whatever.
It is becoming a trend with developers and it's not nice to have such dumbed down design.
It was much better before.
Damn Google! The one who designed this should be shot on sight.

Icon started to look much worse after the Android O support
Today Total Commander for Android has been updated to v2.90. From change log I can see that you added Android O support.
The issue is that on my Pixel 2 total commander icon started to look much worse. Previously icon didn't have an ugly white circle on the background and now it looks like a crap.
Could you please fix the icon so that it doesn't have the white circle?
Thanks!
P.S. Unfortunately, I cannot post the screenshot as the forum's security system prevents me from doing this

My phone is running an Oreo ROM themed black entirely. White circles in the drawer look ugly as hell. TC is also black. Text files, which I open with TC Editor by default, have this floppy-in-white-circle icon as well, which irritates me immensely.
What's the use of Adaptive Icons if they don't adapt?
Can we at least have a choice to select an icon on black (gray, yellow, whatever) background? Can the background be transparent? If it's png it could be transparent. Why is it not?

You cannot choose the launcher icon on Android. It is defined in the so-called manifest file.
