feature request

Post by *rien van ham »

Is it possible (like Windows Explorer) to update the content of a filepane automatically?
I am developing software which creates and destroys files. If Total Commander could update the filepanes (e.g. every 2 seconds or on every change in the subdirectory) I wouldn’t have to press F2 every few seconds.

Thank you!

From a developer's perspective, this would require a timer or thread to periodically wake up and post an event indicating that the files should be updated. Very easy to do.

From a user's perspective, this could really get in the way if one of the drives in either of the active panes was a slow drive that takes a few seconds to read (such as a dvd or cd-rom), and everytime you went to do something you were busy with an hourglass waiting for bloody thing to update. It would make matters even worse if the "always load complete directory tree" button was checked. If this feature is included, please allow the ability to turn it off.
Lord, please help me be the person my dog thinks I am..

Hello,

Only for "fast" (hard)-drives. I know in .Net there is an object called FileSystemWatcher. It fires an event everytime something is changed in a directory.

A couple more threads asking for the same feature:

http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=1057

If memory serves me well, I think Christian brought up the speed implications and overhead as a (valid) argument here.

Maybe you can work this out by using a macro tool or even TCScriptEditor: http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=2499
