Batch File -- Renaming tool

Post by *Finnigann »

Feature req:
I would like your thoughts about an embelishment for the renaming tool.

I get files from newsgroups (audio files mostly) and they aquire the subject title for the file name. Some of these are horrendous.

ie:
(Any Fills-Missing #32] [01_38] - AAT 46-03-30 (0001) Jezebel.mp3 (01_31).mp3

or:
(Attn Rocky REPOST Reqd [50_50] - Dimension X 51-09-27 (0050) Nightfall.mp3 (01_67).mp3

Sometimes the air-date is included before the show name. I want the air date but not before the show name. I want only one file extention and to remove things like yEnc stripped out completely.

(Attn_ User) [5_9] - _CBSRMT - 770815 0695 The Together Place.mp3_ yEnc (01_16).mp3

If things like airdate playing time or version (different actors sometimes) can be moved into the properties section of the file attributes, so much the better.

Somethings I can get out of the file like the ".mp3_ yEnc", but moving the airdate to after the show name stumps me.

Stripping off the tails of a file name is compounded by show titles of different lengths.

See it's a challenge! Some parsing of the filename is needed. the tools and masks provided are not up to this (as I understand them and their use).

I am hoping for something that will parse the file name OR show it and let me indicate what's what and where I would like it to end up in the final file name (or attributes)

I hope this isn't too much to ask

After all I do not really know, what you would like to get. I can see how the filenames look like you have. Maybe you could post how they should look like (maybe for each example). That would make things clearer to me.
