Congrats on a great product

Post by *AJones »

Hi:

I did not expect a File Manager to be this sophisticated. I was on alook out for an alternative to Win Explorer. Although I like Win Explorer I cannot open WinRAR files from within, TC does that. However, I cannot use the ease of use of the Right click menu on files, Copy,Move, Paste functions similar to WinExplorer etc in TC. Where can I find the plug-ins for these functions for Right-click menu, Copy. Move, Paste etc functions etc as ini Win Explorer.

Thanks,
AJ

AJones,
Also File/Folder Size plug-in
Or Space on a folder, or Alt-Shift-Enter.

>How can I display the File Size in KBytes/Mbytes.

Configuration -> Tabstops -> Size display -> set to dynamic

>and also TC to display the size automatically when the Folder is highlighted.

Configuration -> Operation -> Calculate space occupied by subdirectories -> tick "when selecting with the space bar"
...and of course highlight (i.e. select) with space bar when you need size calculation or use the other highlight
methods for faster response without size calculation.

Since you are new to TC I suggest that you install and use this menu file: http://www.totalcmd.net/plugring/TCExtMenu.html
It will help you a lot to easily locate "hidden" features.

Welcome to the forum and to the fantastic world of Total Commander. You are about to embark on very beautiful journey!... :D

You never know how much you dont know! Having come to speed with Emacs for LaTeX, I got to get to speed with TC.

How do I use the Extended TC Menu, I tried using

Start-> Change Start Menu to lead to TCExtMenu.mnu, but I get an error executing Program?

Wont TC automatically highlight a folder? not that it is hassle.

Any way great to see that there are so many PlugIns.

Nop! That's a different feature of TC. You haven't learned your lesson well! ;) :P :D

Instructions can be found inside the file at the end of the file if you view it
with a text editor (or of course with TC).

Copy the file in your Language folder inside TC (can be anywhere actually but that's the obvious location).
Go to Configuration -> Language -> Click on the >> button and browse for the location of the file -> Click Apply.
Now, observe your new menus.

What do you mean by that? I didn't understand you.
Are you looking for this:
Configuration -> Operation -> Selection (with Gray+) -> Also select directories ?

I got the first sorted out.

What I meant was that the directory gets highlighted when the cursor Hovers over it, and the directory size and information is displayed. The Tool Tip message works only for files which displays all the file information. I was just wondering if it was possible to find Folder info just by cursor hovering over the folder.

Also, what impressed me was the ability to executre RAR file directly, instead of invoking WinRAR, I get a message stating do you want to unpack and execute, OR extract to a folder. Is there a way to directly execute a packed file just by clicking on it and not getting this message.

For starters, you could try to add singleclickstart=1 under the [Configuration] section of your wincmd.ini. That will move the cursor alongside your mouse.

More information in tooltips will be available in the next version, due in a few weeks.

wincmd.ini - [Packer] - ExpertMode=1

Hacker Thanks:

I did some changes, I dont get to see some mpeg files listed in TC. mp3 are listed though. I am getting a hang of this app, quite versatile.

I guess you accidentically pressed Ctrl+F11. This is the hotkey for show only executable fils (the file types you mentioned above).
Press Ctrl+F10 to make all files visible again.
