Content Plugins, predefined

Post by *osm666 »

I think what the content plugins are really necesary and now with the 6.50 it's a reality but it's too bored get the plugins like audio, video and images, maybe these three content plugins can be part of all Total commander installations in the future, and exist (today at few day of the 6.50 release) some plugins of diferent authors (all great plugins), but when i will reinstall the TC again and reload my configuration files and the plugins aren't installed i have to re-download and try to get a similar configuration.

maybe a preconfigurated o predefined view willbe a little more convenient.

Thanks.

:) Hello !
Welcome on board !
¤ In one hand, the Author doesn't wish to include plugins else than his own ones, because they change too frequently, the updates are too numerous and close one another, so plugins released on the TC-CD would be obsolete just some days later… :|
* In the other hand, you are not wrong, it's really very long and tedious to reinstall a lot of plugins at each new full installation time. However, you could make a backup of your <wincmd.ini> file, and reuse it … The most plugins keep the same file-names, so you would have just to place the new *.w*x libraries etc. in their sub-directories, following the same tree-structure than before…
maybe a preconfigurated or predefined view will be a little more convenient.
¤ I agree. Indeed, predefined views would be very convenient and handy ! “Others;) and I thought to pre-defined templates… The principle is not refused, apparently, but I guess it needs a long design time and a big work, hence not to hope before the next major version, let's say… 7.0 or so…

 Kind regards,
Claude

It's not really necessary to reinstall all plugins and configure each one of them when you reinstall TC on your computer.
I make a backup of TC directory weekly to be able to restore it if i have any type of problem.

The process it's simple:

1- Always install all TC addons (TC utilities, plugins and scripts) in subdirectories inside TC directory.
2- Backup TC directory and TC ini files WINCMD.INI & WCX_FTP.INI (if they are not inside TC directory) to a Zip
3- Use Regedit to export at least one of these keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ghisler
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ghisler

Then when you want to reinstall TC all you have to do is to restore Zip file to his original location and import REG file to registry.

If you use %Commander_path% variable in the paths to plugins and tools (instead of full paths) - it will allow you to move TC even to other location (eg. from disk C: to D)

Maybe the TCPlugman Pluginmanager will be helpful for you.

You dont need to do this
if your ini-file are in %Commander_Path% and
you write "UseIniInProgramDir=3" (without ") into your wincmd.ini-file :D

So, if if you do this you dont ever need to reinstall tc
but just to replace new files with new releases and you
are able to move tc to every place you like and it
will always works as you want it to :)
