Feature request: Default column set for each plugin

Post by *ctiberg »

Hello!

It'd be nice if each content plugin could have some function called during installation, named "GetDefaultColumnSet".. This could be added to the users set of column choices, so that the user doesn't have to make their own set to use the plugin.

If this is already possible, tell me how :)

It would also be very useful for file system plugins that don't display files, but other items - such as POP3 mails, database tables and others - then the user could get the right column set automatically. This would of course involve a change to the FSPlugin functiions....

The ability to connect a column set to a specific directory would also be very handy, but that's outside the plugin, of course.. Having my columns shift automatically when I move from my music collection to my images collection would be nice :)
Best regards,

I honestly thought that this was the way it was implemented... I hunted several minutes for the column set I thought had been created when AnyTag.wdx was installed, and discovered that I had to create my own :(

Yes, it would be nice if there was such a question during installation if to add such custom columns. Of course you could say "no" - I use some content plugins not for viewing files with custom columns but only for using in eg. searching or renaming only.

It would be good soultion for less experienced users - they would get ready solutions at once.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

At least it should be possible to load and save custom column settings. Now it's a real PITA to move them from one computer to another as it requires copying and pasting in the ini files.

It's indeed an interesting idea, so I will consider it for TC 7.0. Content plugins are very new (only two weeks in the public!), so there hasn't been much chance of testing them yet. I will therefore collect other suggestions on how to improve them.
