Yes !
Go to configuration chose Operation
--> search for "Calcutate space occupied by subdirectories" section.
unselect checkBoxes on the left.
you have a dropdown list (on the right under Everything checkbox) where you can select automatic...

nsp must be using Total Commander 10.50 beta 1, because it's a new function there.

Regarding his post: Do NOT uncheck the two options on the left!

With older versions, you need the plugin dirsizecalc and use that in a custom columns view.

Hi,

I wrote

Note the * asterisk before the command.

Try this.

PS:
An additional button with command: cm_CountDirContent certainly can't hurt either,
because I have the impression that you sometimes have to manually trigger the automatic function,
for example, when you switch to another tab or change the drive. Mmhh.

PPS:
On the other hand, it works almost without delay and reliably if you use the tool 'Everything' for this purpose.
Once set up, you also get search results in real time.

That is not true - you can do it with Auto Switch Mode and these settings: https://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/foldersizeautoswitch.png

With this method, in TC 10.50b1 and TC 10.50b2 as well as in TC 10.00 final
I get "dropouts" in many cases, i.e. after clicking on a tab, locked but directory change allowed,
I do not get file sizes for folders. For the most part, however, the View mode with Auto Switch Mode works.

For the View mode, I have set the following for test purposes (to correspond to the 1st image announced):
Sort order: Size [✓] Descending
but this did not change the behaviour.

It looks to me as if there is no automatic updating here in many cases.

A test with TC_clean_x64.ini has shown that the View Mode with Auto Switch Mode is lost very quickly.
  • View Mode (*cm_CountDirContent) and Auto Switch Mode defined.
  • Change from C:\ to D:\Bilder (=Pictures) -> Tab, locked but directory change allowed -> created
  • Change from C:\ to D:\Daten (=Data)      -> Tab, locked but directory change allowed -> created
  • Change to a directory e.g. from D:\Bilder or D:\Daten -> the directory sizes are calculated
  • Change between tabs and the directory sizes are no longer displayed

petermad,
I assume "with older versions" meant before View modes were introduced.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Hmm, maybe, but I thought it was in relation to versions older tan TC 10.50b1 because that was mentioned in the two posts before Ghislers post.
