Lister image navigation - Why i have to select them first?

You know what I never understood about Lister? It's just hellish image navigation!
So, in order to view the pictures in the folder, I have to select them first (!!), and then go from file to file by clicking N and P? Seriously? \

Why i must select them first? Why not make the usual for everyone navigation with Space or Left\Right?

What's the point?

Use the Quick view and you can use the other window for selecting the files.
Or use one of the Image view Lister plugins,
they all buttons and keys inside without the need for previous selection.
I use Photoviewer and Imagine

That's how Lister works. The "usual" navigation doesn't allow to skip certain files, which means that you can't view non-consecutive files. The selection method via N/P does allow that. And keep in mind that N and P, or Lister in general, work(s) for every file type, not just images.

If you want the "usual" navigation, you can install a Lister plugin like Imagine, as Horst.Epp already mentioned.

Then you have to select bevor viewing as this is the Lister behaviour
You may add a post under suggestions and hope that Christian some day changes this.

You can automate the selecting/unselecting part with this button:

To make the button:
1. Mark the text in the box here above (click SELECT ALL).
2. Copy it to the ClipBoard (press Ctrl+C).
3. Right click on TC's buttonbar and choose "Paste".

You can also use Alt+ArrowLeft/Right to navigate instead of N and P

If you put this in your usercmd.ini file:

you can assign a keyboard shortcut (for example Shift+Ctrl+F3, of just F3) to the em_myList command.

Do you mean scroll up and down in pictures that are bigger than the window? - that already works
If you mean chnage the size of the picture - just hold down Ctrl while you turn the wheel.

Well for multipage images IrfanView and XNViewMP goes to the next page. When reaching the last page XNViewMP goes to the next file, IrfanView does not.

XnView classic changes the size of the image when scrolling.
Imagine scroll the image, if it is bigger than the window.
Window Photo Viewer changes the size of the image when scrolling.
Window Photo App changes the size of the image when scrolling.

So out of six common image viewing programs only two goes to next file when scrolling - you can hardly consider that a default action for image viewers then.

But this is not matter of "voting" - many people consider TC as a very valuable software for unique features, not most common.

For me, the most important options for the mouse wheel are zoom and switch between images (in different programs!). Image scrolling in third place.
