* Make sure there is a shortcut file in your file panel (you can create one with Ctrl+Shift+F5) or a .exe file.
* Go to Configuration/Options/Icons
* If not already selected, select option "All associated + EXE/LNK (slow)" and click Apply and look at the exe/lnk icon in the file panel
* Select option "All associated" or "Only standard icons" and click Apply or OK.
* exe/lnk icons are not reloaded in the file panel.

This will only be applied when you change to a different directory.

Hmm.. How weird. All other changes to the icons, including enabling EXE/LNK icons, seem to be applied immediately. Only disabling EXE/LNK icons is not applied immediately.
