Sometimes closing TC leaves a "ghost" window frame
Occasionally when I close the application, it leaves behind a "ghost" window frame on the screen which will not go away until I reboot. It's just the caption bar with control box, min, max, and close icons and the window border with drop shadow. Internally, it's 100% transparent

Re: Sometimes closing TC leaves a "ghost" window frame
Can the window be closed with the close button? Is there a high CPU usage from the TC process (check in Windows Task Manager)?

totalcmd.exe is no longer running, according to Task Manager. There's no way to get rid of the window "artifact" besides rebooting.

Try to update you display driver.
Also you should add some configuration infi to your posts.
OS and TC versions and 32/64 bit.

And also no totalcmd64.exe? According to your screenshot it's TC 64-bit.

Re: Sometimes closing TC leaves a "ghost" window frame
I typed totalcmd.exe from memory.. Yes it's actually totalcmd64.exe (when it's running). Version is 10.52 (in the ghost window..)
OS is Windows 11 with latest updates (Version 10.0.22621.1344)
Video adapter is RTX2060 Super. Drivers are latest version 531.18 from 02/28/2023.

Is it gone when you restart the Windows Explorer background process?

Re: Sometimes closing TC leaves a "ghost" window frame
I havent tried restarting explorer.exe. I'll try that next time.
Re: Sometimes closing TC leaves a "ghost" window frame
Restarting explorer.exe (end process and run again) had no effect.
This time I noticed that the Total Commander instance had been minimized to the system tray and I restored it from the system tray using the mouse and then closed it and it left the ghost window frame. I'll keep trying to pay attention to see if it's only on windows minimized to the system tray.

Re: Sometimes closing TC leaves a "ghost" window frame
Also, I have multiple monitors and if I power off one monitor, the ghost window frame moves to the other monitor.
Re: Sometimes closing TC leaves a "ghost" window frame
Just confirmed that it only seems to happen if I minimize the window to the system tray, forget about it for a while, even launch other instances of Total Commander and close them with no issue, but then when I restore the minimized instance from the system tray and try to close it, it leaves behind the ghost window frame until reboot.
Re: Sometimes closing TC leaves a "ghost" window frame
More bonus facts..
If I lock the computer, the ghost frame shows up on the lock screen.
If I Log off (Switch User) , the ghost frame comes back after I log back in again.
Rebooted to get rid of the ghost window.
Started Total Commander
Minimized to tray
Restored from tray (using mouse)
Closed Window - no ghost frame
Tried 3 more times, no issues
It only seems to be if I minimize to the tray and leave it there for hours

Did you check the Details page in task manager as well?RichM wrote: 2023-03-05, 05:41 UTC totalcmd.exe is no longer running, according to Task Manager. There's no way to get rid of the window "artifact" besides rebooting.
