Total Commander Version 6.58, 16 Bit

Post by *Sir_SiLvA »

Sorry if this post already exists in the "depths" of this forum I did not find it, neither with the forum search
(which doesnt like 6.58 as a search word) nor with google

So I was working on a side project of mine recently and noticed:
Image: https://i.postimg.cc/DyJx9k4b/Zwischenablage01.png

So, I looked at the file properties and it states:

Code: Select all

File Description	: Total Commander 16 bit international version, file manager replacement for Windows
File Version	: 6.57
Internal Name	: TOTALCMD
Legal Copyright	: Copyright © 1993-2007 Christian Ghisler
Product Name	: Total Commander
Product Version	: 6.57
So I searched this forum and came up with nothing, same goes for Google, looking at the TC WebSite
(btw still called wcmd.html instead of tcmd *g*) and I searched even the wiki :D but came up empty...

Any possibility of - no I am not expecting it to be able to understand RedirectSection - "updating" TC v6.58
to have at least the correct version information ?
(apart from the number Total Commander 6.58, released in April 2008 so
Copyright © 1993-2007 Christian Ghisler should be 8)

I can confirm that TC 6.58 16bit has 6.58 in the title bar AND in the "Help" -> "About" dialog, but that the exe file's file version info shows 6.57.

The Copyright info in the "About" box also correctly shows 2008 and not 2007.

In the tcmd16.exe file I find both 6.58 and 6.57 strings - so apparently TC did not use the file-version info internally, but it's own constant. - I wonder if it still like that?

Also, note weird use of capital letters on about box:

Code: Select all

Total Commander VERSion 6.58 16 bit (23.4.2008)

Sorry I dont see what a thread about win3.11 has to do with wrong
file version info stored in the tcmd16.exe?

I have the same box as petermad (except the name).

Yeah it looks like Mr. Ghisler just forgot to update the tcmd16.rc-file before compiling?

Nothing. Slightly OT.
It's just about that some people would like further development of the 16-bit version.

ah ok ! (the only thing i wish is that 6.58 would understand RedirectSection...)
but this thread is only about the fact that the file version information in tc 6.58, 16 bit is wrong

(same goes for the 32 bit version - thanks Petermad for your archive at https://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/ !)

Hello
I wonder if the 16 bit version of Total Commander 6.58 supports Folder Tabs?
Sorry for highjacking the thread.

Looks like it
New in Total Commander 6.0 final (17.11.03):
[Tabs]
- File panel Tab support
Edit: I got the above from history.txt but that doesn't show specific 16bit info. See 16bit screenshot below, the answer is no it doesn't

No the 16bit version does not support folder tabs: https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/tcmd16_658.png
But the 32bit version does: https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/tcmd32_658.png

You can still get My extended menus for 16bit TC 6.58: https://madsenworld.dk/index-uk.htm?wincmd/index-uk.htm#tc16bit

Makes sense since you would use 32-bit TC whenever you can, and only use 16-bit TC on Windows 3 without Win32s (which did not have tab controls in the OS).

Thank you all for the response. I'm using the 16 bit version of TC in some OS/2 VM. (And fiddling with some code to make a tiny clone of TC for OS/2 :) )
