How to "quickly" view HEIC photo files using TC
I've installed two Microsoft Store extensions: HEVC Video Extensions and HEIF Image Extensions.
Therefore, I can use Windows Explorer and Irfanview to preview and display HEIC photo files.
In TC11.0b8 default state with Win10 64bit, it can also use Thumbnail view mode (CTRL+SHIFT+F1) to preview HEIC files.
However, it doesn't work when I use Lister (F3) or QuickView (CTRL+Q).
I know I can press 8 (Explorer preview), and then I can view the image properly in the Lister or Quick View panel.
But, this method is not as quick and smooth, especially when I need to quickly filter photo files in a folder.
I also tried using AppLoader plugin, but it didn't work. Are there any other ways to easily view HEIC files using TC?

What works without plugins:
IrfanView (when its path added to the Lister multimedia config and additional file types added *.heic)
Explorer Preview set under Define view method by file type
This solves F3 and Quick View
Plugins which work:
- IrfanView
- PhotoViewer

Thank you very much, it works as I desired.Horst.Epp wrote: 2023-06-28, 07:17 UTC What works without plugins:

The key is to add "*.heic" in the "Define view method by file type..." setting, and choose"8" as the default view mode.

Can you please help me with the steps?
I set *.heic associated to "8" but this does not work

This only works if you have installed the Microsoft Store extensions:pdario wrote: 2024-10-08, 10:11 UTC Can you please help me with the steps?

HEVC Video Extensions and HEIF Image Extensions
Test it with the Windows Explorer

Re: How to "quickly" view HEIC photo files using TC
I can see the preview in Win Explorer. Is this enough as a test?
I also have HIEF Image Extension installed, but not the HEVC one (it looks it needs to be paid)

If you see the preview in Explorer, you should also see it in TC.pdario wrote: 2024-10-08, 10:44 UTC I can see the preview in Win Explorer. Is this enough as a test?

Open a .heic file in TC with F3 and switch to the Explorer view by using Options / 8 Explorer Preview.
If this works, you made an error in assigning this option under Define view method by file type...
If you view these settings, there must be an entry like
*.heic 8

Re: How to "quickly" view HEIC photo files using TC
No, when I switch to Explorer Preview nothing happens, I continue to see the "text" of the image and the option remains set to 2 (Binary fixed length)
Re: How to "quickly" view HEIC photo files using TC
HEVC Video Extensions and HEIF Image Extensions are not seen by all heic. Use wic_heic instead. It allows you to view any heic.
Re: How to "quickly" view HEIC photo files using TC
I tried downloading and registering wic_heic (https://github.com/prsyahmi/wic_heic) but same result: I see the binary text when launching the viewer (F3)
Re: How to "quickly" view HEIC photo files using TC
It is necessary to register both x86 and x64 versions of the dll. The viewer will use the required version.
Re: How to "quickly" view HEIC photo files using TC
No joy. I registered both, restarted TC and still see the text, even switching to Explorer View (8)
Re: How to "quickly" view HEIC photo files using TC
Have HEVC Video Extensions and HEIF Image Extensions been removed?
Re: How to "quickly" view HEIC photo files using TC
Is there TOOLS.DLL in the IrfanView plugins folder?
Re: How to "quickly" view HEIC photo files using TC
I have HIEF Image Extension installed, but not the HEVC one.
I don't even have an Irfan dir! I'm using Imagine plugin
