Question about how to batch rename more than one file at once?

Post by *Happy Hopping »

I have a bunch of file name from here:

https:// www njstar com/cms/cjk-code-to-unicode-conversion

that is Chinese GBK code and converted to simplified chinese, these are song names, usually say 10 songs in a CD

So now I have 10 file names of 10 different songs on my sub-directory that I want to paste the above 10 entries to the old file names, in which they are in Chinese GBK

so I can do rename 1 name at a time, but is there a way to copy and paste all 10 different names?

In opened MRT (MultiRenameTool , Ctrl+M)
With this dialog box, you can rename a list of files selected in Total Commander.

press the F1-key and read the help
[_] >> Opens a context menu with the following options:
Load names from file: Specify a text file from which the new names should be loaded
Edit names: Save current target names to a text file, edit them, and paste back.
Configure editor: Choose a different editor to edit the files. Make sure that the editor saves as plain text!
The menu can be opened with F10.

I don't know if that list handles Chinese GBK and simplified chinese.

TC saves the file as UTF-16 LE (if necessary), so as long as the editor in question is able to correctly edit and save that file, it should work fine. However, there's a bug in TC 11.0 beta 8 and all older versions that truncates file names: viewtopic.php?t=79431

This bug only happens with very long names, normally song titles aren't that long.
