TC 11.00RC2 - "KEYBOARD.TXT" was NOT updated

Post by *tuska »

After upgrade from TC 11.00RC1 to TC 11.00RC2 the file "KEYBOARD.TXT" was NOT updated.

Code: Select all

C:\totalcmd\*.*
----------------------------------------------------
Name/Ext	Size	Date Attr
----------------------------------------------------
KEYBOARD.TXT	11 380	12.07.2023 11:00	-a--
----------------------------------------------------
****************************************************
C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Temp\_tc\INSTALL.CAB\e\*.*
----------------------------------------------------
Name/Ext	Size	Date Attr
----------------------------------------------------
KEYBOARD.TXT	11 380	19.07.2023 11:00	-a--
----------------------------------------------------
The "C:\totalcmd\TASTEN.TXT" file has been updated.

E: Is the "KEYBOARD.TXT" file always updated with the final version TC 11.00 first?
D: Wird die Datei "KEYBOARD.TXT" erst immer mit der finalen Version TC 11.00 upgedated?

I don't use the installer, but copy from the INSTALL.CAB manually - but is it when you use the installer that KEYBOARD.TXT wasn't updated? Could you perhaps have had KEYBOARD.TXT open in aanother program, when updating TC, preventing the file from being written?

Here, the keybord.txt was updated from the combined installer.
Checked by looking on the file data/time, the content is the same as in RC1

I can confirm that the date of the keyboard.txt file didn't change after installing as an update. I will check it.

Thanks to all.

When upgrading, I always proceed as follows:
  1. Download the 32+64-bit version - example:
    C:\totalcmd\Migration\TCD-Programmversionen\TC-11\11.00RC2\tc1100x32_64_rc2.exe
  2. type in: . 'point' on the TC command line and press ENTER
  3. Quit TC
  4. Double-click on the "tc1100x32_64_rc2.exe" file in Windows Explorer and install (update) to C:\totalcmd
    (is suggested automatically).
  5. After that I start TC to check if the installation in C:\totalcmd was successful, eg Total Commander (x64) 11.00RC2
  6. After that I start with the adjustments including: C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Temp\_tc\INSTALL.CAB\
    - %COMMANDER_PATH%\*.inc
    - %COMMANDER_PATH%\LANGUAGE\*.mnu, *.chm
  7. Check description (.ahk)
  8. Etc.

I always use the installer with update,
and the date/time of the keyboard.txt was changed to the same as the other updated files.

Did you also install the combined 32bit+64bit version of TC as Tuska did?

I always use the combined version installer and let it update.
In my case, I use Free Commander to execute the downloaded setup, while TC is not running.

Mmhh, hopefully you don't expect me as a hobby user to change my installation variant
and delve into these parameters.

Thanks! :)

I will use the button at the next opportunity for installation in:
C:\Program Files\totalcmd\ and C:\Program Files (x86)\totalcmd\.

I still perform the installation in C:\totalcmd using the method described above.

Just in case you're not aware, closing not required as the TC installer will ask if you want to close TC, do so, and then proceed with the installation. Hasn't failed to work for me.

I have been doing it the same for many years. Simply [Enter] on the 32_64-Installer.exe in the panel and everything runs quickly and perfectly. All betas, rcs, releases. Simply one over the other.

Just try it like this...
