Overview of command line parameters for the Installer

Post by *petermad »

The only place that I can find an overview of commandline parameters for the installer is in the Wiki: https://www.ghisler.ch/wiki/index.php?title=Installer

But it look like the list is not complete, because I can find several other parameters in the history.txt file.

Are there any other places with such an overview?

Cool, which ones?

I don't think so, except for historical pages like https://www.ghisler.com/mailing.htm (at the bottom) and in the Help - What's new in this version? (New functions and fixes in Total Commander 9.0 beta 8:).

It was this post that made look for the parameters: viewtopic.php?p=437643#p437643

I cant find these parameters in the wiki: S, I, R

But after looking in history.txt, I see that those 3 parameter are new to TC 11.00, so that's why they probably haven't reached the wiki - I know that I could put them in the wiki myself, but I have never used the installer with parameters, and therefore don't feel comfortable doing that.

Be bold, others can further improve it when they notice something is not right, right?

I haven't put them in the Wiki so far because they only work with the TC11 beta installer. Maybe you should mention that?

Yes, good idea.
HISTORY.TXT wrote:31.07.16 Added: Installer now accepts the following parameters /AHLMGDU A=Auto, H=Hidden, L=Language number, M=Multi-language, G=Create group, D=Create desktop icon, U=Update if target exists. All options accept parameters 1 or 0, e.g. G0 or G1. L accepts language Nr. from install.inf, e.g. L18=Romanian (32/64)

Why did you deviate from your own standard "All options accept parameters 1 or 0, e.g. G0 or G1."?

I have updated https://www.ghisler.ch/wiki/index.php?title=Installer accordingly.

Well the K, F, N and Z parameters does not accept 0 or 1 either, so it is not just the three new ones.

N and Z are not on/off switches. I felt K and F were special, but perhaps they are not ;) In any case all the on/off switches that also work in combination wit the interactive installer don't support 0 and 1.

S and R parameters seems to be on/off parameters, but the history.txt did not mention that 1 or 0 is supported for them, that's why I didn't write it in the Wiki.

They don't, I tested it before I asked Ghisler about it.

With the new installer option /I you can specify a folder for the ini-files. By adding parameter 0 you can suppress writing to the registry. But not only does it suppress writing IniFileName and FtpIniName to the registry, but also InstallDir. I think this is not so intuitive because the installation folder has nothing to do with the folder for the ini-files.

There is also a new option /R to disable adding uninstall information to the registry. Wouldn't it make more sense to add parameters to the /R switch to finetune what is not written to the registry?

The function was requested by a user who wanted to install TC to a USB flash drive without adding anything to the registry. /I0 turns off the writing to the TC section, and /R turns off writing to the uninstall section.
