From the Total Commander 11.00 newsletter:
"7z.exe or 7zg.exe can now also be used as an external zip packer"
Does this means use 7z.exe to create a ZIP file? How can I use it for 7z files?
I can't see how to add 7z.exe to the packer menu other than by using the 7Zip plugin.
which works well. But it uses some old 7zip code. Igor Pavlov continues to develop and support 7Zip after 22 years. I'd like to use the latest revision.
I have added a couple of buttons to run 7z.exe. This runs a Take Command .btm batch file to run 7z.exe with better compression and .7z file creation and dating the .7z archive to the latest entry. Total Commander and Take Command give tremendous flexibility enabling me to select multiple files and create a 7z archive in the target folder with a prompt for edit the 7z.exe parameters.
But I would like to add it to the Pack Files menu.
Could it replace the obsolete UC2 or LHA packers with 7z.exe ?

Make sure to check the 7z checkbox. Also this is only supported for packing, not for unpacking.
7zip is faster when packing a lot of small files. The new internal zip is faster when packing a very large file.
