Audioplayer issues: wrong play length // file doesn't open at all
Hello! I have issues with default media player in Total Commander 11.00
The first file opened as audio with length 1:32, but actual length is 2:08. If I open file and just listen, then progress indicator goes to 1:32 and stops here, but audios continue to play till the end. If I move the progress indicator to position like 1:30 and start audio, it plays about real end of audio file.

The second file doesn't open at all. But other players recognize it as audio without problems.

Windows 10 22H2 x64. Tested on clean installation.

Re: Audioplayer issues
Hi.
They are reproduced here correctly.

Re: Audioplayer issues
I don't know what player and codec you have, but they are wrong.
Both files play fine here and show the correct info.
Using TC and the K-Lite Codec pack, which include the for TC suggested LAV filters.

Re: Audioplayer issues
Works fine here, using these LAV filters: https://github.com/Nevcairiel/LAVFilters/releases
Just download https://github.com/Nevcairiel/LAVFilters/releases/download/0.77.2/LAVFilters-0.77.2-x64.zip and unpack the file to TC's Filter64 directory.

Re: Audioplayer issues
For many last years, I'm not using "codec packs" on Windows. So problem with default codecs.
Thanks to all. Using LAV filters or installing K-Lite Codec pack helped.

Re: Audioplayer issues
The reason is the built in mp3 decoder in Windows: It doesn't handle variable bit rate correctly. Instead, it seems that it just looks at the bit rate of the first frame and determines the length from that.

Only one of the files is VBR, the other is CBR, so the decoder must be tripping over something else as well. Maybe the embedded image?

Re: Audioplayer issues: wrong play length // file doesn't open at all
There is no any FAQs, help topics or advices to install some additional files - filters. The page https://www.ghisler.com/filters.htm is inaccessible from left site menu, the only way to find it to Google something like "total commander filters". So many people don't know about this feature.

Why didn't you look in the Configuration when you want to view something ?
Configuration / Operation / Edit/View / Configure Internal Viewer...
There is even a button to download the LAV files

Yep.. This button is located at a distance of six mouse clicks... if you know where to go.

Seeking for viewing problems and not looking for this on the simple to find item is a little bit strange.alezy wrote: 2023-08-20, 18:09 UTC 2Horst.Epp

It doesn't matter what number of mouse clicks this means.
It's a simple, logical way, even for beginners.

It can be made more obvious and easier to access. It also doesn't change the fact that quite a lot of subpages (this one about codecs/filters, the one about the USB cables and many others) on ghisler.com are not linked/shown in the navigation on the left-hand side.
