RC2 actual release date

Post by *HalbschuhTouri »

Does anyone exactly remember from when on the download of TC11.01RC2 has been possible? I could swear that I looked into the forum as well as the download-page on Friday evening and at least twice on Saturday - yet until then in vain.

From my perspective it hasn't been visible until Monday morning (not sure about late Sunday evening though) - but then indicating it would already have been released on Friday? Any observations about the exact timing?

Thanks, so probably my bad! Although I'm still totally clueless as of now about how I could possibly have overlooked that in spite of checking multiple times over the weekend.

This time newly released version TC_11.01 doesn't say final. But I assume it is meant to be a final? Or are there already plans for 11.01a / 11.02?

I got an e-mail from a user who was confused about the word "final". They thought that it would be the last Total Commander version ever published, and that the program would be discontinued, which it is of course not. So in the history I now use "official release". Maybe you have a better idea how to call the release version.

Oh no! "Official Release" sounds excellent. I was just curious about the deviation from "old habits" that otherwise are meant to "die hard"!

Perhaps then name it that way on the "Official Download Page" as well.

@ghisler(Author)
So, congratulations, looks like the hardest part of work is done for now and I guess the whole TC-user-base, me included, will be very grateful for the recent improvements. Perhaps you should consider a well-deserved holiday-period for some time to follow from now on.

I've been wondering, though, if I could make a personal request for the hopefully quieter times lying ahead? I still do vividly remember especially 2 proposals from the past year I found most intriguing and which I did support most emphatically. They both came from the same forum-member, @georgeb, as they were related to each other.

Both dealt with enhanced file-searching and Directory/file-reconciliation capabilities of a future TC-version for similar data/file-versions, perhaps scattered across multiple drives or sub-trees. One has been an important first step, as I see it, extremely easy to implement but a powerful enhancement still.

viewtopic.php?p=425376#p425376

The other being a much more comprehensive solution though which might turn out to be quite an endeavor to implement but which could also bring a whole new quality to TC - so far lacking in any other file-manager that I know of:

https://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=425332#p425332

Some participants in the discussion then expressed their opinion that perhaps it hasn't been the right time for such a major proposal as perhaps the expected next release was already in the making or too close to come.

All I'm asking from you now is to have another - benevolent - look at those when time permits as the TC_11-project seems now finalized.

I guess I'm a bit late to the party - but since this latter formal appeal to our cherished author of TC, Mr. Ghisler, is about two proposals I've published in the past within the designated forum-section - which unfortunately went unnoticed by Mr. Ghisler so far as it seems - it won't come as much of a surprise that I, too, would like to wholeheartedly support that appeal to Mr. Ghisler to revisit those proposals cited above in hopefully quieter times to come and to favorably reconsider their future implementation.

Unfortunately there are far more suggestions than I could ever handle in several lifetimes, so I have to pick those which are feasible and get some attention by other users.

That of course is understood. But in particular the first proposal
viewtopic.php?p=425376#p425376
was meant as a tiny - nonetheless quite helpful and important - first step into the larger endeavor of consolidating sub-trees.

From my point of view it got considerable support from other forum-members and would really be a breeze to implement - so perhaps you might re-consider that first proposal only as its feasibility would seem that obvious and stands undisputed?

I think it's much better to make such a case in the concerning threads instead of this topic or other general topics. Just add your support and reasoning to the corresponding threads. You could also from time to time, "bump" threads in order to ask for attention on that subject.

Thank you for the advice but this is just such an attempt to "bump" my own - really minor - suggestion which has of course initially been made in the appropriate section about "TC suggestions" and has so far received IIRC 7 emphatic supports. It's just because someone else did renew this request in this place as of recently that I thought I should perhaps chime in and support that renewed request, too.
