Video(mp4) not playing in Lister
Video not playing in Lister.
I'm using TC 11.02 64 and Windows 10 22H2.
I've seen a lot of questions on the forums and checked, but when I press watch video, it looks binary.
I downloaded the latest lav filter for 64 from github and unzipped it inside the filter64 folder, and created a separate folder just in case.
Image: https://i.ibb.co/PWJV2Hh/015.png
Also confirm by Graphstudio for video file.
Image: https://i.ibb.co/C5LnyrC/014.png
And try press 4 in lister for switching viewer mode is not working.
I also tried changing the option in the View section of the TC preferences in various possible ways, but without success.
Image: https://i.ibb.co/wsnhcx3/016.png
Image: https://i.ibb.co/9WW7jpT/017.png
Any advice you can give would be very helpful, thank you.

It could caused by either a setting in your wincmd.ini in one of these sectioen:
[Associations]
[ListerModes]
Could you maybe show these sections here on the forum?
What appens when you in lister click on "Plugins" -> "Internal (no plugins)".
Does it work if you start TC with a clean .ini file (it should if the LAV filters are present in Filter64).
It is not possible to see the files sizes on https://i.ibb.co/PWJV2Hh/015.png - so i cannot compare them to mine. is there a slight chance you might have installed the 32bit LAV-filters instead of the 64 bit filers?
Here is the file list of my Filter64 directory
Please change TC's language to English when you make screenshots.

An extension .mp4 may mean nothing.
In several infamous instances, .mp4 files can be decoded exclusively under dedicated proprietary software.
Googling by 'ftypmp42' as a part of the header seen on your screenshot doesn't give much info.
Is your video in question playable by other players?
I'd recommend you try this one:
https://github.com/Aleksoid1978/MPC-BE/releases
Also, I'd recommend you to try MediaInfo, e.g. https://mediaarea.net/MediaInfoOnline, to get and provide proper metadata regarding your video.
As I can see, considering the naming, it's rather a video of a private matter (wedding), so I won't ask you for a sample, otherwise, it could be good if you could share a sample if your video remains unplayable.

Note that OP shows a screenshot of GraphStudio. That should be sufficient evidence that the .mp4 file is an actual video file. Otherwise, how would there be such a codec graph as shown in the screenshot?
Also, "ftypmp42" is a signature often seen in MP4 containers. In the context of this topic it doesn't matter what it actually denotes, it only matters that it can be a natural part of MP4 containers. It's a so-called "file type box", or "ftyp" as shorthand, as specified by the ISO base media file format, of which the MP4 format derives from. If you didn't find anything useful using Google, try using Google's main US search engine and not your local-language country-specifc Google flavor. This can (for reasons unbeknownst to me) sometimes yield better search results than country-specific Google flavors, unless of course you search for local/domestic things. Depending on what browser you use, you might need to force this with the help of an add-on or search engine definition (like for example for Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/search-google-us), as Google has a habit of (re)directing search queries to the local country-specific Google flavor.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Re: Video(mp4) not playing in Lister
Unfortunately, this doesn't work reliably. This is particularly obvious when using search terms involving names or abbreviations or some such that have the same or very similar spelling in English and in the local language. For example, being located in Germany, even using www.google.com/ncr will prioritize "local" German-language search results. Not so with the search engine provider for Firefox i linked to. Anyways, my apologies for having now wandered deep into the off-topic zone...

Thank you for your response.beb wrote: 2024-01-03, 20:53 UTC 2kaorw
I have checked the mp4 file with VLC, Windows Media Player, Potplayer, etc. and found that it plays fine.

Re: Video(mp4) not playing in Lister
Are you using the 64-bit version of both Total Commander and Graph Studio (or both 32-bit versions)? If no, then the correct codecs may not be installed, they are separate for 32-bit and 64-bit.
If yes, you may see the problem in the log file, which you can create via Configuration -Options - Log file.

I cannot see any problems in your ini files except for your [-Associations] section, which should be [Associations], but that should not cause the problem.
Can you play other video formats (avi, mpeg etc) in Listers internal player?

elgonzo,

Well, /ncr is not meant to prevent that, it prevents google.com from redirecting to google.de, for instance.even using www.google.com/ncr will prioritize "local" German-language search results

This is great, but still doesn't fully answer the question of whether you deal with 'ideal' or 'problematic' mp4, or something is wrong with the TotalCommander setup.
Thinking of that, I would offer you the following approach.
I have made for you three tiny test videos (each of the same 11 frames, 10 fps, 1 second).
The frames were made with the ImageMagick command under PowerShell:
0..10|Foreach-Object {magick -size 320x180 -background black -fill blue label:$PSitem "png32:$PSitem.png"}
The videos:
[1] vidx_20240104_ffmpeg_make_default.mp4
by the FFmpeg command: ffmpeg -r 10 -i "$i\%02d.png" "$out"
[1] is a 'bad' one because it is unplayable on some devices.
[2] vidx_20240104_ffmpeg_make_x264.mp4
by the FFmpeg command: ffmpeg -r 10 -i "$i\%02d.png" -c:v libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p "$out"
[3] vidx_20240104_ffmpeg_make_x265.mp4
by the FFmpeg command: ffmpeg -r 10 -i "$i\%02d.png" -c:v libx265 -pix_fmt yuv420p "$out"
[2,3] are the 'good' ones because they should be playable mostly everywhere on Earth.
If you don't want to reproduce the above commands yourself, I uploaded those test videos, so you can download them from the given links (please, find them below).
Possible testing results and conclusions:
a. All of those videos would be rendered as binary by the TotalCommander's internal Lister if it is somehow misconfigured.
Therefore, if you see them as binary in internal Lister -- something is wrong with your TotalCommander setup.
So further efforts could be aimed at that (TotalCommander configuration).
b. All of those videos would be rendered as intended by the properly configured TotalCommander internal Lister with the LAVfilters.
Therefore, if you see the test files as videos -- your actual videos in question are somehow the 'special' ones, which may require special treatment for them to be playable in Lister.
So further efforts could be aimed at that (identifying and installing required codecs, etc).

We have tested with various video files such as AVI, WMV, ASF, MPG, M2TS, MOV, FLV that we have verified playback in other players and found that the same issue occurs.petermad wrote: 2024-01-04, 11:51 UTC 2kaorw

Re: Video(mp4) not playing in Lister
I'm using the 64 version. I also checked through the task manager and both Lister and TC are running 64-bit. (I noticed that the list in the task manager doesn't say 32-bit at the back).ghisler(Author) wrote: 2024-01-04, 11:21 UTC Are you using the 64-bit version of both Total Commander and Graph Studio (or both 32-bit versions)? I didn't see any error messages in the log file.

Unfortunately, none of them play in Lister.
To check if it's a configuration issue, I downloaded the 64-bit version of the installer (tcmd1102x64.exe) from the official website.
After installing it in a different location than the original installation path, I put lavfilter inside the Filter64 folder and ran it, but the same result: all three video files are only visible as binaries.
