When opening a music file with Total Commander's built-in player on Android, is there a setting to have it automatically play the other music files in the folder?

No, but you can open all selected tracks (or the entire folder when going up one level) via context menu.

Thanks for the answer Christian and for such a fantastic program by a fellow Swiss, I'll try that.
If you still have some time/motivation for programming, here would be my wishlist for the built-in music player (partly based on File Manager+ quite amazing built-in player)
- Play next song in folder automatically
- Swipe left/right to skip forward/backwards a few seconds in a song
- Adjustable volume increments of the phone volume buttons in percents, down to 1%
