[TC 11.50b1] CPU load 70-80%

Post by *AntonyD »

And I just need to get into the folder with installed TCIMG and....
ONLY from Win.Task Manager I will be able to close the freezed TC.
And not even from the 1 attempt!!!!!!
And ALL what I can see here - is that the ICOns for TCIMG.exe TCIMGGO.exe
were NOT rendered completely - only white boxes instead of proper ICOns were showing...

Yeah, the problem is clearly related to the icons, because if I open Explorer at this moment of the TC's "freeze",
then it will have exactly the same problem with not displaying icons for EXE files.
And if I will kill the Total process, then the icons in the Explorer will instantly be drawn.
And in general - as if the entire OS temporarily becomes more slow. Not catastrophic, but noticeable

And in order for everything to get better, I just need to kill/start Total about three times.
Then on the fourth time - it will probably take the icon out of the some internal prepared cache
and everything will be drawn instantly.

OK. will wait a beta2, will check the next step....

Switch these checkboxes ALL ON or ALL OFF. Or the last one on, the rest off.
Image: https://i.ibb.co/YWQGt5n/image.png
If any of these combinations still does not work, set the first switch set in this window to "All associated" or "Only standard icons".
We are not so S.M.A.R.T. as we imagine...

Not yet. Still - IF I just get into the dir with simply unpacked TCIMG utility
I see that TC is trying and trying to fetch both ICOns from 2 EXE files in that dir.
TCIMG.exe TCIMGGO.exe. And it fails.
And also - in a parallel my antivir tool is going crazy. 20/30/35% of CPU load!
As soon As I will close TC - all is revert back in a normal 0/3%.

Could you provide these two EXE files for testing, please? Or can I download them somewhere?
I don't have any EXE files causing this problem.

Or as soon as you close your antivir tool?

No, antivir always uses these percentages for me - from 0 to 3. Very rarely it jumps to 10.
Therefore, disabling it in this situation is just saving the CPU. But it is still impossible to work with this version of the build.
And this is despite the fact that I tried to disable all options related to icons. It just doesn't help. This behavior repeats anyway.
And once again, the MS Explorer itself, which seems to be unrelated to this process, also turns out to be "frozen" after opening
this folder! It also cannot display these icons instantly. The way it can, the way it will happen if I kill the Total, the way it will
work if I go back to the previous version of the Total.

[in a progress....]
video with stacktarce for the situation when I've got a completely freezing.
Btw! even TaskManager refused to kill the process - Access is denied!
And where the address of one function is present in more than 10 times!
It's like a endless loop with a some mutex wating....

OK, I found the tool here:
https://totalcmd.net/plugring/TCIMG.html

However, after unpacking it to its own directory and going there in Total Commander, I do not get any increased CPU usage. I'm using Windows Defender on Windows 11.

Does anyone else get high CPU in this situation?

However, after unpacking it to its own directory and going there in Total Commander,
Tried the same:
On Windows 10 the CPU usage for TC goes from 0 to 3 % for a second when I enter the directory - on Windows 7 it is only 1%

I am also using Windows Defender on Win 10 and Windows Security Essentials (same as Defender) on Win 7

OK, you can close the topic.
As soon as I can clarify the conditions of simple reproduction for you, I will let you know.
although even without any antivirus - I can disable even the built-in one in OS - everything is easily reproduced.

Have you tried going into the TCIMG directory with a TC started with a fresh ini file?
