View contents of PDF files in QuickView panel

Post by *marceepoonu »

I want to be able to view the contents of PDF files in the Total Commander Quick View panel.
I installed two Lister plugins: wlx_dfview 109 and wix_TCSumatraPDF.

I installed the second one only after the first one did not work; but neither works.
Here is an image of the garbage I see when I open the Quick View panel to see the contents of a PDF file.

I downloaded "gs10040w64.exe" from this link on November 29, 2024, and I installed it in Win 11 Pro on a Microsoft Surface Pro (64 Gig RAM).

But when I opened the QuickView panel in Total Commander ("TC"), the first error message I got was:
Error Could not load GhostScript environment!.
Please make sure, that you have the latest GhostScript version installed.
(At least Aladdin Ghostscript 5.50)
OK
After clicking OK, the next (i.e., the Second) error or message I got was:
Error I canlt find the G:\My
Drive\J\Apps\lnstall\Total_Commander\Program\Plugins\Listers\wlx
_TCSumatraPDF_1.14\SumatraPDF\SumatraPDF64.exe in the path
specified in the file sumatrapdf.ini
OK
After clicking OK again, the next (i.e., the Third) error or message I got was:
Error I canit find the G:\My
Drive\J\Apps\lnstall\Total_Commander\Program\Plugins\Listers\wlx
_TCSumatraPDF_1.14\SumatraPDF\SumatraPDF64.exe in the path
specified in the file sumatrapdf.ini
OK
I’m running Total Commander Version 11.03 64 bit (2024-02-21) under Win 11 pro on a Microsoft Surface Pro with 64 gig of ram. The contents of my wincmd.ini file are in https://pastebin.com/rmXTCJ1Z

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Marc

To view pdf, you do not need any ghostscipt. Just use the edgeviewer !
wlx_pdfview_109 is fairly old and should be disabled or moved to bottom of stack (after sumatrapdf) as quickview is less flexible than lister window.

You don't need Ghostscript to view PDFs in High quality.
The plugins SLister or TCSumatraPDF are based on an actual SumatraPDF and work fine.
I prefer the TCSumatraPDF.

The ini file for it looks like this

Code: Select all

[Options]
path64=C:\Tools\SumatraPDF\SumatraPDF.exe
path=C:\Tools\SumatraPDF\SumatraPDF.exe
DirIniL=%COMMANDER_PATH%\Plugins\TCSumatraPDF\Ini-L\
DirIniQ=%COMMANDER_PATH%\Plugins\TCSumatraPDF\Ini-Q\
This assumes you have stored the portable x64 SumatraPDF under C:\Tools\SumatraPDF\

The ini files for Quick view and F3 viewing are stored in sub-dirs under the plugin home.
%COMMANDER_PATH%\Plugins\TCSumatraPDF\Ini-L\
%COMMANDER_PATH%\Plugins\TCSumatraPDF\Ini-Q\

Make sure to remove the Lister plugins you don't use, e.g. when using the SumatraPDF plugin, remove the other PDF plugin which uses Ghostscript.
You can remove plugins via menu Configuration - Options - Plugins - Lister...

You need to read the readme file included with the plugin. It says that you need to specify the path to SumatraPDF, or put it in the default folder.

Your Paths are not understandable for me, they are overly complicated.
Read what I said to you under the link and tell us what's the problem with it ?
You have to adapt the examples to your real paths.
The dirs must be writable, of course.
