Help with Total Commander last version error!

Post by *Alexa33323u »

Good evening everyone, so I used Total Commander and moved a large folder, after I moved it gave me an error that it cannot move some files because they are hidden or system, that was the error "files "...." has either the attribute hidden or system! Delete anyway? Total Commander". Question, how can I see the data about what I moved last time and see again what was not moved and what was written in that error?
To see those details in Total Commander? I did not have the log option set, I did not even know about it.
And why did it appear to delete those files? If I clicked just to move folders, not to deleted them? Are there details about this last move operation somewhere? Or some option to see the latest data about what I moved, to see the details of what I moved now? And to see that error again? Because it appeared in a window but did not show me everything it deleted. I attached the picture of it, but I want to see it again with everything it deleted, as this is just a printscreen from the error.
And another question, when I go to a folder in files and changes attributes, after unchecking all the attributes, when I go back to the same folder, all the attributes are checked again, archive, read only, hidden, system, etc, even I uncheck them, how to solve that?. Thank you very much for your help!

The checkboxes in TC's "Change attributes" dialog has 3 states when several files are selected:
blank = remove attribute
checkmarked= set attribute
filled = leave attribute as it is

Make sure the checkboxes are blank not filled if you want to delete attributes.

Windows 11 apparently does not show the filled state as filled, but as a - sign see: https://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=466628#p466628

Hello Petermad, I olny tried one folder to change attributes. But when I left them blank, after I check it again attributes for that folder, the checkboxes are filled again :( After I uncheck them first time. I have latest version of Total Commander and Windows 8.1, but seems that this option doesnt work, doesn`t change, after put blank to a folder, its became again as filled, in change attributes. Thanks again

If the attribute change has no effect you probably don't have sufficient permissions on the objects in question. Would also fit the error message from the screenshot where TC says it couldn't access the objects it lists. Maybe try again as administrator.

if you mark a folder or more than on file then the dialog will always open up with the checkboxes filled (not checked). It is only if you open the dialog on one single file selected that the dialog will show the attributes for that particular file.

after I check it again attributes for that folder
After you have deleted all the attributes, what does the column "Attr" show - this is where you can see the attributes for more than one file - you can not use the dialog to show the attributes for multiple files.

The dialog is designed to set attributes, not to show them. It is only for a single file that the dialog will also show the attributes.

Hello again, so even though it shows the folders as having filled attributes, the files in those folders no longer have the selected attributes?

When selecting multiple objects, TC uses a tri-state checkbox in the "Change attributes" dialog. See my post here for more information about these states: https://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=466609#p466609

The filled boxes just not say anything about the actual attributes (when multiple files or a folder is selected - the actual attributes, you see in the Attr column to the far right sie in Full view (Ctrl+F3 for Full view).

The filled boxes only indicates that the attribute will not be changed for any of the marked files when you press OK. If the boxes are blank or checked the attributes will be either deleted or set for ALL marked files.
