Description printout

Post by *Ambaquista »

How can I get a list of filenames AND description together?
In the good old days of 4DOS it was easy.
How about, as an option, include the description in DiskDir, Catalogmaker or DiscMaker plugins?
thanks

Press Ctrl+Shift+F2.
(You probably knew this.)
---
Oops, this shows names plus description on the screen,
but if you select File => Print => Filellist the preview shows the usual long listing, i.e. filenames plus sizes and dates.

Ok, so yes I support your request. :)

DiskDir has been written by Christian Ghisler himself. So, let us see if he feels like adding this feature.
DiskDirExtended and CatalogMaker and DiscMaker have been written by independant programmers. So it may be advisable to contact them directly, because they may monitor this forum regularly or not.

Regards,
Karl

If you like to have a printable list, you can generate such lists using the WDXinfoPacker packer plugin. Because this plugin can't handle the "internal" content plugin (<tc>, with field <tc.comment>), you need in addition an external content plugin: FileDIZ (field <filediz.Long Description>)If you like to add the WinExplorer-/NTFS-comments to your list too, install the content plugin ShellDetails (field <shelldetails.Kommentare>).

In WDXinfoPacker add a new scheme and edit it as follows:

Code: Select all

[ ] Header:
[ ] Before filename:
[X] Filename: %N
[X] filename <x> info: %T
[X] Wanted information:
@Mod=Long description@FileDIZ.wdx;@Mod=Kommentare@ShellDetails.wdx
[ ] After information:
...
Now "pack" (<Alt><F5>) your selected files using the WDXinfoPacker with the above created scheme.

EDIT:
[OT]: Why is description<at>FileDIZ.wdx within a
...
section interpreted as an email addy? :?

Because there is no such thing as KI. Computers are stupid.
And from a formal point of view, description<at>FileDIZ.wdx, looks exactly like a valid e-mail adress: name@domain.topleveldomain. (<= see what I mean?)

Hello, van Dusen.

I really appreciate your helpful solution. Thanks for it. :)

Yet, read it. It is pretty complicated. I think this a just the second best way of getting the simple list made up of "filename + description".
TC can show it on the screen.

So why does it not print it, if I select File => Print => Filelist?

Why does it not simply print the filelist as it is shown on the screen in this moment?

If I select long list on the screen, I want it to print that format, too. And TC does.
If I select short list on the screen, I want it to print that format, too. And TC does.
If I select short list plus comments, I want it to print that format, nothing else. But in this case, TC prints the long format. Why???

This fiddling with 3 different content and packer plugins is much too complicated compared to the simple thing I want to achieve.
(And as long as TC cannot do it, I will simply launch 4NT. But this is my personal workaround, because I use 4NT anyway.)

It will be easier in the next version of TC, which will allow to export exactly those fields to a file which are currently shown in the active panel.
