Possible virus in Imagine???

Post by *petermad »

Today I scanned my PC with http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan and it found the file JBIG.DLL from Chun Sejins Imagine 0.9.0.0 Lister plugin to have a possible virus ! I have scanned with Panda before, where I didn't get that warning.

I wonder if there is any cause for alarm, and I am reporting it here since Imagine is widely used AFAIK.

Before spreading false positives use an online virus scanner like:
http://www.virustotal.com/
http://virusscan.jotti.org/

Thanks...

http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan IS an online virusscanner - so ??

And in my posting I used bold for the word possible - to emphasize that it could be a false positive - so hold your horses.

After my scanning with Panda ActiveSan I have tried with McAfee FreeScan ( http://uk.mcafee.com/root/runapplication.asp?appid=73 ), Symantec Security Check ( http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/home.asp )
and Trend Micro HouseCall ( http://housecall65.trendmicro.com/ ) without any warnings for JBIG.DLL

So what? It's ONE virusscanner only, the above links offer access to multiple scanning and this is always necessary to protect from false positives.

This is why I have posted an answer, you should always do multiple checks before releasing virus warnings. Hoaxes are usually more annoying than real viruses because they spread even faster.

This was not an offense actually so need to hold any horses. ;)

Btw., if you move your lazy asses over to nyams page for a sec you will eventually find an update of the plugin which is available since 19.12.2005. I just could'nt be bothered to tell you sooner.

Gosh, 2005, that's freakin' old! :P

I can also recommend http://www.virustotal.com/ because it scans a file with a large number of virus scanners. It cannot be used to scan your entire harddisk, but it's perfect to check a suspected file.
