|
|
Just a small update: My conversion of Total Commander to Unicode proceeds as planned. I can already browse Unicode folders now, and they are shown correctly in the current path field. I have also already created Unicode controls for folder tabs, edit controls, static controls, panels, comboboxes etc. which work both on the Windows NT line with Unicode, and the Windows 9x line with ANSI.
Of course there is still a lot of work to do, but I'm confident to get it all done within a few more weeks.
We now also have a new PC (not my main development PC) with Windows XP 32bit and Vista 32bit dual boot. This PC is running also Windows XP 64bit under Vmware, so I can now test x64-related problems too.

I'm still working on it. The following functions still need to be ported:
- background transfer manager
- synchronize dirs
- encode/decode
- split/combine
- create/verify CRC checksums
- some configuration dialogs
- comments
- print functions
- all trees
- search function
- port connection
- ignore list
What has been ported so far:
- file lists
- Ctrl+B branch view
- Drag&Drop externally and internally
- copy, move, delete
- change attributes
- resolve links (*.lnk)
- auto-complete
- regular expressions
- properties
- file system plugin interface and sample plugin
- lister plugin interface
- content plugin interface
- packer plugin interface
- internal RAR unpacker
- call to external winrar.exe
- custom view, hints
- command line
- history+hotlist
- lister
- multi-rename tool
- folder tabs
- icon extraction
- Button bar: Icons, Hints
- Execution of commands from button bar, start menu and Ctrl+D menu
- Ctrl+D and Start menu configuration dialogs
As you can see, it's a huge amount of work... _________________ Author of Total Commander

Thanks for the very detailed update
I looked through the list and didn't find the status of the following functions:
- ZIP (don't know if there is an standardization of Unicode in ZIP archives)
- FTP
Maybe more? Anyone found a feature not listed above? |

ZIP: there is currently no standard at all. I tried Winzip, RAR, 7zip, none of them supports Unicode in ZIP
FTP: UTF-8 is supported now, but has to be activated manually. I plan to add a user interface for it.
Custom columns: The field names and field titles do not support Unicode yet, but the field contents do.
Associate: No change so far.
Compare: Full unicode support
Set volume label: no change
Choose command: no change _________________ Author of Total Commander

Great - there are more and more UTF-8 servers out there. Would it be possible to autodetect somehow if UTF-8 is enabled on the server? |

If the FTP server supports UTF-8, it is listed in the FEATure list as UTF-8 or UTF8. So it should be possible to autodetect it...

UTF-8 would be | Code: | | C3 96 73 74 65 72 72 65 69 63 68 |
