[REQ] About HintsCustomField
I want from the hints much more than is provided now.
1. In help in "Settings in the file wincmd.ini" section there could be an explanation of [HintsCustomField] with current limitations on maximum hint-representation length (260 bytes);
2. I need much more than 260 bytes - 1000 bytes would be enough.
For example:
Title: [=ai.Title]\nArtist: [=ai.Artist]\n#[=ai.Track] at album [=ai.Album]\nGenre: [=ai.Genre]\n---------------------------\nTechnical info:\nTags: [=ai.Tags]\nTime: [=ai.Duration (H/M/S)]\nSample rate: [=ai.Sample rate.KHz]KHz\nBitrate: [=ai.Bitrate][=ai.Bitrate type]
See, it's much longer than allowed.
3. OLEComments should be possible to configure not only via wincmd.ini.
4. If OLECommants=1 then TC should NOT look in the registry each time when any file is hovered. Maybe TC should look in the registry only when started - and make a table like "ext=whattodo".
5. There should be an option to show these hints ONLY via some hotkey like CTRL+mousebutton2. That may be implemented instead of #4.
6. Or, instead of ##4,5, hints should be shown only when mouse hovers over the "name" column (now it's column-independent).
P.S.: Sorry, if I missed threads with similar content - I didn't find them.

Yes, but I would have noting against a higher limit, if it can be of benefit to others, and there are no side effects (TC speed, memory usage etc.)What about 2.? Are you satisfied with today's limit

I will consider to make this line longer, if it will not cause any compatibility problems.

I support too a longer line.
BTW, how to display \n as a linefeed in Hints ? Here \n is displayed as is (\n).
Anyway, TC is great. I use it a lot all the days since end of 1994 (v 1.4).
On 25.02.1995 I noticed Wincmd 1.4 as "Le meilleur remplaçant du gestionnaire de fichiers" (the best substitute of filemanager). So I burned it on my first CD in 1995.
Then, in 1999 or so, I answered to a poll from Christian about how to enhance Wincmd from v3.5 to v4 if I remember. Christian had a dozen of possible enhancements and we have to choose 4 among them. All my 4 were satisfied in v4 or 4.5 like Ctrl-b (flat dir) and descript.ion.
Is there anyone who remembers that poll ?
Thanks Christian.
Now I am waiting v7. That I'd like in v7, if possible, is virtual folder.
