This bug is introduced since RC1
Maybe due to:

Code: Select all
07.10.16 Fixed: Allow to view, rename and delete files ending with a dot, e.g. "test.txt .". These names are not allowed in Windows functions, but can still be created on NTFS with \\?\ prefix (32/64)
07.10.16 Fixed: Display trailing dot(s) in file list for file names ending with a dot (which isn't allowed in Windows functions, but can still be created on NTFS with \\?\ prefix) (32/64)
Problem reproduced and confirmed.
The error message which will be displayed suggests that Total Commander suffixes a dot character to the filename which actually does not exist (the dot, the file does exist).

Confirmed in TC9rc1-3
The same bug also applies to Shift+F4 on a file without extension - in stead of opening the existing file it creates a new zero-byte file

Confirm for RC3.
BTW, 8.52a final works fine.
P.S.
TC installer is sfx-ZIP with no compression and some files inside. Looks like TC does not find "PK" marker.

Confirm both of petermad's statements:
FIXED: Opening a ZIP archive file lacking the ZIP filename extension works. (Ctrl-PgDn, Enter)
NOT FIXED: Editing an existing file lacking a filename extension using Shift-F4 will create a new file. The editor window will be empty not displaying the old file content. The previously existing file will be lost the moment you confirm to edit the file.
(This is particularly nasty, because existing file content is nuked.)

1. ZIP - confirm fix for RC4
2. shift+F4 - confirm data loss for RC3 and 4 (didn't test it for older RC and beta). 8.52a does NOT have this bug.

Sorry, you are correct, our mistake of introducing it in the middle of this thread about archive filenames without filename extensions.ghisler(Author) wrote:PLEASE, report such bugs in separate messages!

OK, I will move this to "fixed bugs" since the original bug has been fixed.
