Sorry to drag up an ancient zombie thread, but I searched for the question I wanted to ask before starting a new one and this was very close. If "New Directory" is too long for the available space on the bottom toolbar, then could the label of that F7 toolbar be at least spelt as F7 New Folder (ie. with a space between the New and Folder). I'm specifically referring to the 32bit installation version display here, not the x64. On 64bit it displays correctly as F7 New Folder, however on x86 versions it displays as F7 NewFolder which looks weird and wrong.

I use both versions installed on separate computers. One looks right and the other looks weird.

This is correctly labelled as F7 New Folder in x64 versions.

Apparently, you use the external English language on the computer with the 64-bit Total Commander and the internal English language on the computer with the 32-bit version.

Genuine serious question, since the misspelling won't be fixed natively within the program, how would I go about using an external language file on the XP computer to correct the spelling on the F7 button please?

Make a file in your total commander Language directory with the name wcmd_eng.lng

Put this in the file:

1076="F7 New Folder"

Now, in TC's Language configuration, choose "English - External (wcmd_eng.lng)"

Thank you petermad that has worked perfectly. I have to ask though, why, when the solution seems to be so trivially easy, is this not going to be changed in the native program coding so that tweaking the language file isn't necessary?

I agree - there is no reason for the Internal English to be different from the external English - And I agree that there should be a space between "New" and "Folder" in the internal English too.

There can be several reasons why this is not changed:

- Ever heard of camelcase?

- it's a feature of the program and one can perhaps be proud of using a program that has such a special feature.

- Ghisler(author) perhaps associates this with a memory of the beginnings of the development of the - at that time - Windows Commander. (e.g. He was interrupted while developing the line and then later forgot it)

- Anyone who is bothered by it can easily change it themselves - as described in the posts above. And that's one of the principles here: if something can be solved by everyone, it won't be changed in the program code.

So I understand well why it is not changed by ghisler(author). Yes, more than that, I think it's a good thing.
