It is not possible to store the position under VISTA
When changing the size and / or position of TCMD on the desktop (and I am not talking of the ICON position), it is not possible to store this, even when you click on Extras - Store position. I am using Vista Ultimate german release.

You probably upgraded an existing Windows XP to Vista. Vista no longer allows to write to some places where you could write on XP.
Please re-install Total Commander, and choose a directory for the settings files to which you have write rights, e.g. the option "Documents and Settings". Or use the tool Inireloc from our homepage to achieve the same.

Do you have a setting in:
wincmd.ini [Configuration] ResolutionSpecific= ?

I cannot confirm. Saving the size and / or position of TCMD works well in Vista.

Just uncheck "directories" in Configuration - Options - Operation - Save on exit.
